Public Utility Act tests spark high level legal showdown

The Spectator reports that the Mads Electric Institute will bring in top legal minds Newton D. Baker James M. Beck and Joseph W. Davis to contest the constitutionality of the Public Utility Act of 1935. They will also challenge federal gifts and loans to power plants while Beck argues the Tennessee Valley Authority case. Services Held for Judge Sheean in Galena

Judge Frank T. Sheean aged 57 of Galena, a Jo Daviess county bar leader and longtime Democratic figure, died after weeks of illness. Funeral high mass conducted by Father J. T. Donahoe at St. Michael's Church Galena, with burial in St. Michael cemetery. He served as Jo Daviess state's attorney 1908-1916 and 1932, became judge of the 115th circuit in 1933. Governor Horner may call a special election to fill the vacancy. six-year term runs to June 1939. local party chairmen to select candidates in district including Carroll Jo Daviess Lee Ogle Stephenson.

Donald Swingley of Savanna is appointed truant officer for Uarrall county by Supt. of Schools Lawrence Brady after delay due to salary funding. An allotment was approved at the county board meeting. Swingley will investigate twenty four cases of children not attending school.
