ARGO FA Mr and Mrs John Port of Morrison spent Sunday in the Ralph Holsinger home. Miss Adeline Holsinger was taken to her sister’s home in Morrison with appendicitis. Duane McCullough of Morrison visited his mother in Morrison. Weekend guests in the Charles Sack home were Mr and Mrs Charles Behr of Moline. Ralph Holsinger unloaded 30 head of Hereford calves from Kansas City.
The boys played the high school on Tuesday with 10 to 4 in favor of the high school, and the second game ended in a 5 to 5 tie. Report cards were handed out Wednesday. Teachers are away Thursday and Friday so there will be no school. The fifth grade studies equations and finds it interesting.
Robert Miller plans a home weekend visit with his father Fred Miller who is a patient at Jane Lamb hospital. Mrs. Paul Lewis and Mrs. Hazel Stage visited Apple River Canyon State park Sunday. Miss Alvina Hass of Clinton spends this week with Mr and Mrs Carl Peterson.
Pvt Earl Kness son of Mr and Mrs Wesley Kness and Miss Mary Rickard daughter of Mrs M Rickard of Galesburg were married Friday Oct 9 in Kahoka Missouri Attendants were Mr and Mrs Edward Lawton of Galesburg The bride wore wine velvet with black and gold The groom will return to Fort Knox Kentucky after the ceremony The dinner was held at a Burlington Iowa hotel Mrs Kness will stay in Galesburg with her mother
Parkhill and Ideal schools plan an Saturday evening program on October 22 at 8 p m in Parkhill School. Helen Hans will play piano. The program includes songs, dialogues such as Aunt Marie's Visit and How Ben Was Hung, plus a cake walk and refreshments.
Miss Helen Rogers and Roy Dykstra were married Friday at the Mt. Carroll Lutheran church with a single ring ceremony by Rev. E C Dolbeer. The couple, of Mt. Carroll and Thomson respectively, are now home on a trailer farm in Ustick.
Most business houses closed except restaurants and gas stations to aid in scrap drive. A fleet of ten trucks and volunteers scour the countryside seeking junk while Francke-Switzer hardware yard already shows accumulating piles, signaling broad participation in the effort.
Mr and Mrs Leonard Stage and Mrs Paul Heusinkveld drove to Apple River Canyon Sunday where they were met by Rev and Mrs Clarence Plock of Warren for a picnic dinner.
The York community schedules 9:30 a.m. Sunday services at local churches including Catholic and indie groups. Parish and parishioners invite residents to join and reflect.
The duck hunting season started Thursday Oct 15 and continues to Dec 23 with geese and brant allowed in the same period while doves remain closed. Daily limits include up to two wood ducks or mixed redheads and buffleheads, geese and brant two, plus four blue geese. blue geese alone carry a six per day limit. Open water hunting is allowed. no feeding or baiting birds. five decoys prohibited.
A Sunday steak fry in Palisades park, Savanna, gathered Mr and Mrs Henry Vogel, Mr and Mrs Chan, Whistler and son, Mr and Mrs Fred Bierman and son, Mr and Mrs Robert Carroll and Barbara, Mr and Mrs C W Hogg and Jean and June, with Jimmy Wiebenga visiting relatives before a Tennessee trip.
Argo Methodist announces Sunday 30 service at 7 30 p m with preaching. The ladies aid met Tuesday afternoon at the church.
A group of 40 relatives and friends attended the chairvari for Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Stiles Monday evening. They were taken to town and treated. Hostesses Mrs. Florence Johnson and Mrs. Edna Cooper organized a shower for Mrs. Stiles on Wednesday afternoon.
Hubert Williams will graduate as a petty officer from the Great Lakes Naval Training Station Saturday morning at 2 50 a m. He then plans to travel to Thomson for a nine day furlough with his family later that day.
The intervening stretch of the C N W railroad has been divided and added to East Clinton and Union Grove. Herman Timmons, in charge of that mileage since 1919, has been transferred to a section at Austin Indiana. Mrs Timmons will join him there after November 1.
Trees in Thomson and nearby towns show vibrant autumn hues with hard maples especially striking. Leaves are falling early this year creating a colorful scene. Mr and Mrs Wesley Sack visited Fred Miller at Jane Lamb hospital Sunday afternoon.
Thomson Methodist Church lists morning worship at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. sermon on "A Fourfold Growth of Life" delivered by Pastor I. A. Woodrow.
The Porters of Argona announce the marriage of their daughter Alta Lucille to Wilbur Stiles son of Bruce Stiles near Savanna. The ceremony took place at 3 PM Thursday October 8 with Rev James R Shultz officiating at the Wayland Missouri Methodist church. A wedding dinner followed for the bridal party in Burlington Iowa. Others attending included Mr and Mrs Richard Badtke and many relatives from Hillsdale Savanna Port Byron and DeKalb.
The sermon by pastor R H Leitner opens at 9 30 a m with morning worship and 10 30 a m Sunday school. The ladies aid plans an all day meeting Thursday October 22 hosted by Mrs Otto Switzer.

York Community high school stages the junior play Miss Jimmy on October 23 1942 directed by Shirley Ritzenthaler. Louise Beverly Marshall Florence Darlene Ashby Catherine June King Doris Bernice Kness Harriet Betty Flickinger Droopy Charles Barr Miss Watkins Mary Blair Junior Hook Frank Manning and others populate a lively comedy about romance class and ambition as Jimmy seeks a dress and a future.
Blair Goble son of Mr and Mrs Glen Goble Woodstock undergoes appendectomy Friday. Fred Miller Sr improves after entering Jane Lamb hospital Friday. Mrs Arthur Thompson ill at home Savanna. Robert Smith seriously ill placed in iron lung Wednesday and shows some improvement. Jesse Jurgens injured when hay rope broke at home Monday. Isabelle Prins Savanna ill with tonsillitis recovers. Blaine Lohmeier to Freeport hospital Monday for broken collar bone. LeRoy Prins ill at home shows some improvement.
Engagement announced between Miss Henrietta Sikkema of Savanna and Delbert Gaar of Thomson. Sikkema arrived in San Diego on September 30 and they plan to wed at First Lutheran Church with Rev Weseller officiating. Wedding dinner to follow at the home of Mrs Bek where she resides. Gaar is in the U S Army in San Diego. Sikkema worked in Chicago previously.
Mt Carroll residents hosted and visited family during the week with numerous gatherings. Central stops included Clinton and Savanna as relatives and friends traveled from Spring Valley, Chadwick, Morrison, Cortland and Chicago to share meals and afternoons with the Warfield, Turney, Prins, Lewis, Sack, Abbott, Gerits, and Parsons households.
Sunday events featured Mr. and Mrs. B R Lewis hosting at their son’s home, plus visits from Ida Weber in Harvey Marshall’s home and numerous dinner and supper guests including the Hogg, Warfield, Plumley, Crow, and Tobey households. Other notes mention Dick Williams beginning work at Green River ordnance plant and multiple travels among Chadwick Fulton Albany LeClaire Colona Lanark Morrison Belvidere for social gatherings.
Gilbert Lehman of Harmon announces the betrothal of his elder daughter Mis Luella Winona Lehman to Corp Roy W Parker son of Mr and Mrs Wayne Parker of Dixon.
Mr and Mrs Clarence Schwan are to leave Morrison soon for Fairview Kansas after years running a hatchery there They will visit her mother in Fairview and his family in Oklahoma City before settling new plans in the Sunflower State
Pupils at the high and grade schools enjoy a two day vacation while teachers attend an institute on Thursday and Friday.
Royal Neighbors host by Mrs Margaret Cochran on Tuesday with Evelyn George Edna Tucker and Ida Seim assisting. Chat-a-While met at Mrs Ford Grimm’s for Red Cross sewing. Argo 500 Club prize winners were Mrs Amy Lewis first Mrs Louella Ditch second and Mrs Hortense Nipe third. Next Argo meeting Oct 22 at Mrs Erelyn Welch’s with Mrs Mayme Mummert hosting. Brownies enjoyed a wiener roast with Joan Wilt Gayle Grom Arla St Ores and Janabelle Beck present. Red Cross donations collected by Mrs Houghton for army kits. Thomson 500 Club hosted by Mrs Clara Andring at Mrs R I Houghton’s. Girl Scouts eight members voted to donate a dollar to Red Cross for a soldier kit. New badges issued. Argo Home Ec club meets Fri Oct 16 at Argo Methodist church with program including Carroll County Song devotional by Edna Cooper and entertainment by Marie Tobey Belie Carpenter Neema Smith. Hostesses listed as Amy Lewis Edna Cooper Maude McGinty Edith Robison and Alice Switzer.
The document lists Honor Roll by grade with seniors to freshmen and perfect attendance notices for several students. It also names class officers for seniors juniors sophomores and freshmen including president vice president secretary treasurer and advisers.

The club revised by laws at Mrs Alfred Smith home on Oct 14. New vice president Adeline Groharing spoke after reporting on the Sterling district meeting and urged cooperation with U S O Red Cross knitting First aid Home Nursing and nutrition drives.
Miss Betty Hansen of Argo and Elmer Davenport of Perryville Wisconsin united in marriage on Wednesday September 20 at 2 pm in Second Zion Lutheran church Clinton Iowa. Rev Krueger officiated. Attendants included Gor zne Dora Naniga Irvin Hansen Thomas Hansen and Francis Milani. A 6:30 dinner followed served by Mrs Conrad Guinther and Miss Harriet Kauffman. The couple will reside at 20 Third St Savanna remaining employed at the Savanna ordnance depot.
Mrs. M. J. Strukhoff and son Paul stayed with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Rogers in Maquoketa Iowa. Mrs. Ray Darling and Kay from Cedar Rapids visited Thom son and J. Strukhoff family. Mrs. old Atherton and children of Moline visited the Willi am Strubb home. Mrs. Vernon Leudeke and daughter of Freeport joined J. Y. Stickell family. Monday guests in the J. Y. Stickell home included Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Van Buskirk Lanark Mr. and Mrs. Chas Behr Moline and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Sack Argo.
