Samuel Herrington 76 a Milledgeville area farmer died after a major operation. Funeral rites were held at Dutchtown Church of the Brethren with Rev. Paul Miller and Dr. W. Bell officiating. He left a farm legacy of hog and cattle shipments and a golden wedding in 1938. Surviving: Anna Miller Herrington widow two daughters and four sons. Michael G. Kempter 78 died at his Savanna home after illness. services in Sabula Iowa with burial in Evergreen. James W. Holland 86 died after lingering illness. funeral in Savanna with burial there. Dr. Lawrence F. Isenhart of Mount Carroll has been commissioned a captain in the U S Army. He is ordered to report October 17 at Carlisle Barracks Pennsylvania. A native of Mount Carroll he graduated from the University of Illinois medical school and practiced in Chicago before opening a Mt Carroll office seven years ago.

Ration Board Schedules Thursday Meetings and Tire Certificates List
Regular monthly session of Carroll county war price and rationing board moves to Thursday nights by policy. First Thursday session occurs tonight in Mt. Carroll at the courthouse. Retailers must file inventories for six types of rubber boots and work shoes by Oct. 10. The board lists tire certificates issued Sept. 30 including entries for Savanna, Lanark, Mt. Carroll, Milledgeville, and local firms and individuals.

Fire destroys Earl Delp Farm barn near Mt Carroll
Fire swept a barn on the Earl Delp farm four miles east of Mt Carroll Monday, causing about 4000 dollars in losses. The blaze destroyed the barn and its contents including two horses and 40 tons of hay, with insurance partially covering damages. Delp stated he was grinding feed when the tractor near the barn caught his attention. Mt Carroll and Lanark firemen saved a nearby garage and corn crib.

Army enlistee from Mt Carroll ends life in rural Illinois
Pvt. Arthur Robinson 31 of Mt Carroll shot himself with a 410 gauge shotgun Thursday morning after telling parents he would hunt. Born May 19 1909 in Pleasant Valley he had been in the army since Sept 22 at Camp Grant and returned on furlough. Funeral services were held in Mt Carroll with burial at Oak Hill cemetery. He is survived by his wife his parents four brothers a sister and two stepchildren.

Cattle And Hogs Hit Peak On The Chicago Market
Fred Wilhelm of Carroll county fed cattle delivered three loads to the Chicago stock yards last week. Two loads averaged 1200 pounds at 16.15 per cwt and a 23 head lot at 1360 pounds brought 16.50 per cwt. George H. Hartman, also of Carroll county, had 45 head of heavy butcher hogs selling at 15.40 per cwt, the highest price in 22 years. Top cattle again hit 17.00 per cwt on Wednesday, the season’s high for steers.

No injuries reported in a Saturday mishap on Tuckey Hill west of Mt Carroll as two trucks and a mule team collided. Raphael Verdon of Colesburg Indiana swerved to avoid the mule driven from a Decker farm, skidded on wet pavement, and sideswiped Harry Shiley of Lanark, with the team owned by Vaughn Gaar of Mt Carroll.
