Rites Held For J Grandy Savanna Civic Leader
Funeral rites for John A. Grandy 61 Savanna civic leader were held Tuesday at Community church after a brief service at Law funeral home. The Rev. T Stuart Cleworth officiated with grave rites by the Masonic order. Grandy helped establish Mississippi Palisades State park the Savanna Sabula bridge and Scenic Loop Highway. He died Sunday at Savanna hospital after weeks of illness. Survived by widow daughter Mary and two sisters.

Lanark was picked to host the eighth annual District 27 meeting of the Illinois Congress of Parents and Teachers. Representatives from Chadwick Lanark Mt Carroll Thomson Pearl City Galena Savannah attended the Savanna conference. Fifty six attended the afternoon session and 68 the evening. Local officers and Chicago speakers led discussions on humane education mental hygiene and narcotics effects.

Farmhand tied to string of oil station robberies
Clifford Waters 27 of near Milledgeville was arrested after Morrison, Dixon, Clinton, and Milledgeville stations were robbed last months. Waters confessed after deputies found the gun and license plates in his car. He pleaded guilty to robbery while armed and was jailed in Whiteside County pending October grand jury.

Habeas petition seeks to avoid extradition to Lancaster Wis
A habeas corpus petition was filed in circuit court by attorney Lawrence A. Smith for Adam Mink of Savanna seeking to avoid extradition to Lancaster Wisconsin where he faces non support charges. Mink, employed at Savanna Ordnance depot, is free on bond awaiting hearing. Eleven Democratic judges and election clerks in Carroll county who were objected to by Walter Sherlock will serve in the November 5 general election. The objection was overruled in county court and appeal bond deadlines have passed.
