Tillie M. Dugard Remembered After Long Illness

Tillie M. Dugard died Sunday evening at ten at her sister Mrs Frank Sheridan’s home after weeks of intense suffering. A longtime public figure, she taught school from age fifteen, served as Shannon postmistress for twelve years, and later cashier of Thomson Bank until ill health forced retirement. She remained notary public and York Drainage district secretary at home, supporting causes with progressive, modern methods. Friends gathered Tuesday to pay their respects in a final tribute.

Dr Mathis Rebuilding Old Goose Lake Pump Station

Dr Mathis leads a crew at the old Goose Lake drainage site repairing flood damage to the pumping station and dikes. He estimates the flood cost about 8000 bushels of corn, a figure aimed to finance the reconstruction. Mickelsen boys plow ahead expecting a banner crop next season.

Public Sale at Siewert Farm Near Sandslough

A public sale will be held on the Siewert farm near Sandslough Thursday October 9. Wm Dalacker notes no services at Argo and Thomson M E church this Sunday due to the pastor attending the Sterling annual conference. Mr Phillips of Vancouver Wash visits his friend Herb Rawling, recalling his family once lived on Fred Seim’s farm and raised crops here. Baseballs and bats are put away for the season as Clinton opens football aiming for the Iowa state championship.

Annual Baptist Home Coming Draws Largest Attendance

The York church held its annual Home Coming on Sunday September 28 with the largest turnout in years. Pastor Rev Prestage thanked attendees for their help in making the day a success. Also notes about the A MUSE U show each Saturday and Miss Marian Slayman returning to Clinton to assume duties as head nurse.

Orpheum Theatre Opens With Memphis Serenaders

Orpheum Theatre at Clinton announces Sunday opening with a five piece Memphis Serenaders jazz quintet and a vaudeville bill. Manager Monroe promotes the popular inn theatre as a real treat for the formal opening. Mr and Mrs Samuel Wechsler of Sterling Illinois visited the FA Steele household Sunday.

County cattle TB talks planned at two meetings

In the county a public information plan on tuberculosis testing for cattle will be discussed at two meetings. The Thomson meeting at Community High School will be Monday evening the 13th. The Arso meeting will be held the next night. Both start at 8 o'clock.
