Farm Bureau Honors Carroll County Director at Illinois Meeting

Seventy nine Farm Bureau organization directors received certificates of merit for outstanding work in 1941 at the Illinois Agricultural association annual meeting. A Carroll county director was among those honored for achieving a 105 percent dues collection quota over 1940, certificates presented by George E Metzger during the general session.

Auto Crash Near Polo Injures Lanark Woman

Mrs. F. L. Gigeous of Lanark sustained a fractured left hip when a car driven by her husband struck two parked vehicles on a side road off Route 26 north of Polo. She was hospitalized in Dixon. A similar injury occurred two years earlier. Also injured were Miss Lois Typer and Elinor Cronister with a lip laceration. no others were seriously hurt.

The Tri County Schoolmasters Association held its regular meeting Monday evening at Chadwick High School gym. Supper for fifty was served by the P T A with tables as waitstaff. Gnagey presided as president. program included music by a boys chorus a talk on guns by Robert Jack a vocal solo by Reynold Lang and a bowling movie. Mr and Mrs Ronald Hoover were dinner guests at Paul Jice home near Morrison.

Injured Officials in Savanna Viaduct Crash

J. J. Sheridan York township supervisor and Fred Kaney Forset on contractor were injured near the Milwaukee railroad viaduct curve at Savanna. Kaney suffered a fractured knee and bruises and was taken to a Freeport hospital. Sheridan had a forehead cut and bruises. both cars suffered heavy front-end damage as wet viaduct floors contributed to the collision on Route 80 just north of the viaduct.

New Parking System Enforced in Sa vapna District

Parallel parking is now in effect in the business district of Sa vapna. Signs and road markings installed last week indicate one hour parking only from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The change affects all vehicles and aims to regulate curbside occupancy.

Navy ramping up ahead of schedule in wartime shipbuilding

The Navy reports rapid progress in building ships for the two ocean fleet with 2 31 ships ordered since Jan 1 1941 and 968 under construction. Some 75 000 men already in yards with 125 000 more to join, boosting output to at least one ship every 10 days. Navy training expansion aims for 12 000 to 15 000 new recruits monthly across four training stations. Secretary Knox extols opportunity and The Review offers free booklets for interested men.

Muriel Kness of Chadwick writes continuity for a Cornell college radio show in Mt. Vernon Iowa to be produced next Tuesday at 5 15 pm on WSUT. The weekly broadcasts originate in Armstrong Hall and are aired via WSUI from Iowa City. Muriel helps with the Thanksgiving benefit play for Chinese War Relief and serves in Cornell's Little Theatre, directing studio matinees and working on various crews.

Former Banker Harry Knox Dead in Milledgeville Home

Milledgeville resident Harry Knox died at his home Sunday from heart attack likely in the forenoon. A retired bank cashier who lived alone since 1938, he was a 32nd degree Mason and civic member. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at 2:30 in the Methodist Church with burial in South Elkhorn Cemetery.

Canton No 2 of the Illinois Brown Swiss Breeders association will host its annual meeting in Freeport Saturday. Heavy Snow Brings Winter to Mt Carroll Area

Over two inches of snow fell Saturday and into the night at Mt Carroll with the thermometer dropping to 14 degrees above zero. Snow slowed traffic and caused accidents while roads were cleared by plows and cinders. Farther south and east, heavier totals of three to four inches were reported.

First Aid Couples Progress in Carroll County Training

About 85 residents of Carroll County are completing Red Cross first aid courses under a county program led by Savanna Fire Chief Harold Hersey. Classes in Savanna, Mt Carroll, and Lanark cover 20 hours of life saving topics and additional sessions are planned in other towns. A women’s class of 30 is hoped for after the new year.

Savanna Men Hart In Crash Saturday Night

Dr. E. C. Turner and Jack Haberbush of Savanna sustained minor injuries in a Saturday night auto crash on route 72 a mile west of Byron. They were returning from the Northwestern Illinois football game in Evanston when their car skidded on snow and hit a guard rail. Dr. Turner remained home with chest and ankle injuries. Haberbush suffered a forearm and knee bruise.

Carroll County circuit court announced the November term trial schedule with four cases set for jury hearing and five dates listed for court hearings. The petit jury is called for Monday December 1. Tourist Cabin Destroyed by Fire at Mt Carroll

Fire at the east edge of Mt Carroll destroyed a one room tourist cabin at noon Monday. Damage estimated at 400 dollars. The cabin owned by Glenn Ashby and rented to Mr and Mrs Merle Sisler was unoccupied when the blaze started from a kerosene stove used for heating. Mt Carroll firefighters extinguished the blaze.

Turney Farm Sale Draws Crowd Near Chadwick

Robert Turney’s sale on the Plummer farm north of Chadwick drew a good-sized crowd despite rain. Auctioneer Ed Mest reports excellent prices with a cow selling for 104 dollars and several near the 100-dollar mark. Baled hay brought 12.10 per ton, bean hay 8, and corn 66 cents per bushel. The sale was advertised in the Review.

Mexican laborer Ferman Sundeen injured at Savanna Ordnance depot in a fracas with Antonio Gracia on East Jowen street. Sundeen treated at Savanna hospital for a right side cut. Gracia arrested and held for a Friday hearing. condition not serious.
