In New York City on November 5, Babson argues that rising costs and price pressures stem from stagnant production and wage increases. He critiques labor governments abroad and in America, urging higher production through better employee motivation and fair character. He recalls an old incentive system and stresses courage loyalty sincerity and pride as keys to prosperity.
The Jo Carroll Electric Cooperative Inc board will meet Tuesday December 7 at Lincoln School Savanna. Elizabeth Earl Wisdom of Iowa manager of the Iowa State Cooperative Association will speak. Officers will be elected and a member family program plus a luncheon served by Savanna church groups. Richard Lego family visited Sterling and Russell Lego visited his brother Clarence Lego in Blackhawk Villages.
Preparations for Carroll County participation in CROP the Christian Rural Overseas Program began Friday in Mt. Carroll. Rev. L. R. Gilliland presided, with Rev. S. A. Birdsall named county director. The Abraham Lincoln Food Train leaves Illinois Dec. 15, aiming for 300 carloads. Week of Nov. 21-28 set for lining up contributions, delivered Nov. 29 to Dec. 2 and loaded Dec. 11-14. Donations of food or cash welcome to fund essential foods like whole grains, soybeans, canned meats, dairy, dried fruits, nuts, cotton and wool. Distribution via church channels. no creed or nationality discrimination. Further plans to be announced next week.
Entries from Argyll Stables Mt. Carroll Ill swept three of the first four places in the national horse show hackney class over 14 hands. Killearn Beauty and Killearn Sybil were first and second, Star Spangied Banned fourth, Justification third for Mrs Loula Long Combs. Selection and Perfection also placed high in harness horse pairs. Citation and Constellation won the event for Mrs Combs. Nearby market reports note steers sold at Chicago with prices per cwt and averages for Shorthorns Angus and Herefords.
Carroll county clerk W M Nipe reports last Tuesday's county total nearly 800 votes below the 1944 tally. Straight Reubleman ballots dropped 1611 while straight ballots for Democrats fell by 64. Local social notes mention visits and meals among residents including Fay Hawkins Mest and the Phillips and Merlak families.
Donald R. Rouser of the Taxpayers Federation of Illinois warns Carroll County taxpayers of heavy pressure on tax spending as Illinois General Assembly and Federal Congress convene in January. A mass meeting is set for Tuesday evening November 23 at 8 oclock in Aveaport Masonic temple to discuss 150 propositions affecting taxpayers and to ballot opinions for state and federal lawmakers.

Four De Kalb hunters were rescued after their boat sank in Sand Slough near Thomson. They clung to the wrecked craft for over an hour before Rockford men freed them by breaking a padlock and rowing out to aid. Burnell White of Melrose Park injured when his shotgun exploded near Thomson, with a fragment lodged near his eye. hospitalized but not in serious condition.
Irvin Leroy DeSpain seventeen and Orville Gilmore twenty three suffered serious injuries after a ladder top gave way on a roof repair at the Otto Switzer residence north of Thomson. Both were taken to the hospital with broken ribs pelvic fracture and arm injuries. The men, employed by Mt. Carroll contractors Luther DeSpain and Orville Gilmore, were repairing hail damaged roof when the ladder slipped and they fell about twenty feet. Mrs Switzer responded quickly and found both men on the ground.
A large gathering from Vock Falls and nearby towns attended a Sunday dinner hosted by Mr and Mrs Esper Johnson near Chadwick. Guests included several couples and families, with visits to Chicago, Great Lakes naval station, and a Galena outing. Surviving family details note extended kin and home in Savanna.
Two officials will assume office in Carroll County on Monday December 6 following the November 2 election. Lawrence A Smith of Savanna becomes state's attorney replacing J L Brearton, while H C Pauley of Savanna takes over as coroner from Dr J B Schreiter who served 48 years. Dr Schreiter, Savanna physician, did not seek re election. Pauley a Providence RI native and Savanna practitioner, previously served in the army and has led the Carroll County Medical Association since January. He is married with a two year old son.
The Carroll county chapter of the American Cancer Society met in Savanna on Thursday with county chairman Mrs. D Wolfe. A luncheon followed by a round table discussion featured guest speakers Miss Fannie Brooks and Miss Evelyn Street. The theme was cancer education to eliminate fear and suffering. Members present included Mrs. Charles Kinney, Miss Margaret Handlin, Mr. Carroll, Mrs. Glenn Wise, Mrs. H Hoy and Mrs. Burger Runnels.
In a regular session Thursday Black Oak Grange elected officers led by Master Harold Stoner. A large group of prospective draftees from Carroll county will receive pre induction examinations in Rockford Friday November 26. It is unclear if Carroll county will transfer permanently to the Rockford center from the present Rockland site. An order from Fifth Corps headquarters in Chicago is expected to clarify the matter. Men will be transported from Mt Carroll to the Rockford testing center in an army recruiting bus.
Carroll county 4-H clubs will receive a 25 cash award in the National 4-H Recreation and Rural Arts Contest sponsored by the United States Rubber Company. Mt. Carroll Carroll County Farm Bureau will send a large delegation to Chicago for the November 15 16 and 17 meeting. Board members Elmer Airhart president Jon Plock vice president Harl Burkholder secretary director Otto Wagenknecht J W Erdmi er Lawrence Boothby James Lar ber Lawrence Miller Clarence Doty Louis Diehl and M P Joske farm adviser will attend. Carrol Service will be represented by Howard Woessner president John M Miller and Wayne Steward manager. Prairie Farms Creamery attendees include Ben Williamson Judson Grove and R F Sailer. The annual meeting serves over 15000 farmers with a program on marketing transportation rural schools and economic farm concerns.
John Morris of Chadwick Illinois has been elected to membership in the American Aberdeen Angu s Breeders association at Chicago according to secretary Frank Richards. Morris was one of eight Illinois breeders elected during the past month to join the organization.

Roy J Green prominent Moline businessman who ran the Green grocery at 1510 Sixth Avenue for years died at his home 2207 Twelfth Avenue. He was born November 1 1875 in Winfield Illinois and later moved to Moline with his brother Don to operate groceries. Survived by widow and son, services held at First Methodist Church with burial in Mount Carroll.
Banks offices and most businesses are closed for Armistice Day, with post offices open briefly in the morning and rural mail delivery halted. Savanna plans a 10 30 Armistice program while other county communities largely do not. Charles and Carl Brock of Savanna were guests of their uncle and aunt Mr and Mrs Gus Koggendorf in Savanna Thursday night.
