New Markers Placed On Vets Graves In Savanna Area
Bronze markers now mark all Civil War and subsequent veterans buried in Savanna township and nearby rural cemeteries. The project, started last July by Miss Mabel Greves with patriotic groups, includes 99 Civil War graves, eight Spanish American War vets, and 20 World War I vets. Rural sites add six GAR markers at West Mound, one GAR at Derrnda Lutheran, two GAR at Center Hill, and one American Legion marker at Mosquito Hill, aided by Woman’s Relief Corps, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and United Spanish War Veterans groups.

George Edwin Allen, son of Mr and Mrs George Allen of Savanna, was appointed to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. The telegram from Congressman Leo Auch announced the appointment and the father immediately wired acceptance. Allen, a 1935 graduate, is finishing his freshman year at the University of Illinois and plans to depart for Annapolis in June. The Savanna youth is the first from Carver county to receive such an appointment in recent years.

Mire saucia provent qveidenda. HW Gibson of Savanna was fined 100 dollars plus costs 121.40 in 46 Daviess county court Friday after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated. He was arrested Thursday night by state highway police after his car left a ditch on a county road north of Galena. A Galena wrecker conducted the tow and a garage repaired the car before he drove off.
