Argo-Fa School Plans Picnic to Close Year

Consolidated Argo-Fa school will end the year with a potluck supper tonight at 6 30 at the school. Miss Hilda Knoess and George Doden are the teachers. Mr and Mrs Arthur Behrens visited Mr and Mrs Frank Schreiner Jr Sunday night.

Lot Bandit Conviction 13 Affirmed by Illinois Supreme Court

The Illinois Supreme Court affirmed the 13 count conviction of Nichlas Ferencak of Chicago and Frank Gierens of Dubuque Iowa for theft of money from slot machines at the Indian Head tavern north of Savanna. They were sentenced to two to four years in state prison and each posted $3,000 bond pending appeal. They have 15 days to file a plea.

Rural Youth Barn Dance Set for June 5 in Carroll County

Carroll County to choose June Dairy Queen in state contest

Carroll county selects a local June Dairy Queen committee led by Mrs. Lucile Stransky and including Ferdinan Grimm and Ray Sailer to run the district event. Arnold Benson and state and national dairy groups sponsor the effort with 10 000 entry blanks and a 50 prize for the county queen. The winner crowns at a June ceremony with 310 cash prizes for the runner ups and a queen’s court.

Mrs John Henze found dead in Freeport

The body was discovered near Lanark cemetery. Authorities moved the remains to Lanark cemetery site. Nearby residents, including families from Freeport and Madison, reported the incident as investigators began work. Names cited include Henry Jamnson of Madison and Geojee Johnson of Lintore.

Mount Carroll Horse Show Winners and Results

A large crowd attended the seventh annual show at Glengarry farm stables run by Boots and Saddle Club of Frances Shimer college. Winners included Rex Willis of Lanark in Gentlemen's pleasure, Mrs Rex Willis in Ladies pleasure, and Richard Kehl in Children's pony with list of top placings. Judges were R V Brown, Howard Jones, and D E McBride. Frances Shimer students trained by William Scofield competed in ten classes.

Daggetts school closes after piene and Harmony Circle hosts

The Daggetts school held its closing piene Sunday with Virgil Miet ke as teacher. Harmony Circle met Friday afternoon hosted by Mrs. Oliver Emnyre with members M lessyers Schreiner Deets Stein Shuman Adolph Way Bowles Humbert Emwyre and guests including Mrs. Wilbur Linker. A social time and refreshments followed. Brownie Scout troops visited May Fete at Franetes Sheer junior college in Mt. Carroll. Edward Beattie of Lanark returned from a Detroit motor trip to escort his aunt Mrs. J H Quiek home with his mother and grandparents. A ball game at Briggs Stadium in Detroit was a highlight of the trip.

Rahn Herd Tops Carroll County Dairy Production Standings

Rex Rahn’s Twenty-one Brown Swiss led April results for Carroll County Daly Herd Improvement with an average of 1095 pounds of milk and 41.5 pounds of butterfat. John Derrer and Sons Holsteins ranked second at 1180 pounds milk and 44.5 butterfat. Stanley Finifrock’s herd in third averaged 1088 pounds milk and 30 butterfat.

Senate Passes Bill To Operate Schick Hospital

The U S Senate approved a bill directing the Veterans Administration to take over and run Schick General Hospital at Clinton Iowa. The hospital is idle under War Department control as surplus. The measure moves to the House with broad support already expressed in a House resolution favoring VA operation of Schick.

Rural Chorus forms in Mt Carro with new members

Chadwick members of the Car roll County Rural Chorus recently organized include JoAnn Asay Marion Misiewicz Wilma Schneider Beverly Stapleton Sheldon Frank and Earl Stewart. Rehearsals are every Monday at 8 in Farn Bureau hall Mt Carro. New members will be accepted until May 1. Grade students challenged their dads to a Sunday baseball game and were defeated after youths helped the dads. A high school team then played the dads under another name and won easily.

Soil Conservation Talk At Black Oak Grange Session

Rural eighth graders graduate in Carroll County

Seventy four students from Carroll County rural schools received diplomas at a commencement held at 8 p.m. May 31 in Mt. Carroll high school. The program included processional, solos by Joan Slick and Jo Ann Prins, vocal duets, an address by Rev. T. B. Cleworth, and diploma presentations by L. E. Bruch.

Mr and Mrs Sebert Dykstra announce the birth of a baby boy. Storm of St Louis attended the funeral of his brother in law John Hook. Alma Schmidt teacher led Hickory Grove students on a full day trip to Brookfield and Chicago for about thirty participants. Geo Schmaling and Esther Schmaling joined the Wayne King concert in Freeport. Wayne King born in Savanna and grew up in the area urged former classmates to meet after the show. Don Carpenter and family visited Clyde and his wife Sunday. Donald Hook, Mt Carroll high junior, earned trophies in track this season. Dora Lee Turney was chosen queen of Mt Carroll high seniors.
