Grade School Operetta at Thomson Opera House May 20

The Grade School Operetta directed by Mrs. Lorenzen will be performed at the Thomson Opera House on Thursday evening May 20. The Awakening of Spring by Fearis features the Glee Club with three little Spring figures played by Betty Lewis Ruth French and Arline Adams. The event includes Grade School Orchestra Tiny Tot Orchestra drills Jumping the Rope and Kite Drill plus first and second grade performances.

Hauffman Back From Wedding Tour

Fred Hauffman returned to Thomson Monday and is at his business again after a wedding trip through Ohio. His wife runs a ready wear shop in Davenport and plans Thomson as their future home. An electric passenger coach Milwaukee has shown in Chicago passed the cut-off Saturday. Arthur Pape at Ebner praises them as fine and fast. Smaller lines will be supplied by these coaches as railroads face bus competition. Some roads report a drop of over 1,000,000 passengers versus last year.

Helen Pratt Receives Praise at Chicago Recital

Helen Pratt of Mt. Carroll drew strong praise at a Chicago recital while The Herald Examiner gave her notable support. Mr and Mrs Ely Cochran welcomed a son born Tuesday morning. The Iron Horse telegraph note references Saturday night May 15.

Funeral and community notes from Argo area

The Argo church funeral of Thomas Hansen drew a large crowd with Rev Clark Williams delivering a moving sermon. The Caadwick male quartet and Masonic rites at the grave impressed attendees. Burial occurred in Argo cemetery. Mother's Day services were well attended with flowers and a booklet of poems by Rev Williams given as keepsakes.

Mrs Amelia Smith Enjoys Remarkable Health Amid Illness Hopes

Mrs Amelia Smith has not been in the best of health the past few days yet she enjoys remarkably good health for her years. Many friends listened in over the radio last Friday evening when Miss Helen Pratt of Mt Carroll formerly a York girl and teacher of the Center school broadcast from Sears Roebuck station in Chicago.

Candidates Named For Next Year's P T Association

The closing meeting at the High School Auditorium featured Dean McKee of Frances Shimer Academy and local pupil selections. Elections will be at the first September meeting with two candidates per office. Names include W. A. Adams, Mrs Belle Carpenter, J J Sheridan, Mrs Amy Lewis, Hiram Green, Mrs Frankie Slayman, Frank Smith, Mrs Helen Gaar, Mrs Ida Mudd, Mrs Alice Switzer, Mrs Ethel Lewis. Prof Lehman will stage Aunt Jerushy on the Warpath at Fulton Coliseum May 19, with possible Erie performances. Peter Neihlsen plans artificial ice delivery from Clinton at 50c per hundred, with a roadside route and at least two trips weekly. Cattle in York township tested for TB include Wm Libberton 17, John Ashpole 14, Carl Petersen 22, Geo Hartman 13.

W A Adams announces the local Thorson Chautauqua will begin Tuesday June 15 this year. Entertainments arrive earlier than usual, drawing anticipation from residents who plan to attend. The notice urges community support and promotes the event as worthwhile and deserving of annual status.

Tom Hand Recovers After Severe Tooth Infection

Tom Hand endured a week of illness from blood poisoning after a tooth extraction. Lockjaw threatened but prompt medical care prevented it. He is now improving and hopes to return to his usual health soon.

Wedding Dinner On Mother Day Celebrated At Warfield Home

A Mother’s Day wedding dinner was hosted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Warfield. Guests included Henry Waardield and family, Joe Waardfield, the Jensen, LaShell, Van Buskirk, Warfield and Bibour households, totaling 37 attendees. The event was enjoyed by all and departed late in the evening.

Carroll Co Track Meet May 21 Entry Blanks Mailed

Entry blanks for the Carroll County track meet are being mailed to high schools and rural schools. Rural Meet starts at 9 AM with medals for first and second places and a banner for the school with the most points. Mail entries by May 11 and ensure proper form is filled and returned.
