Eastern Star Holds Special Meeting and Initiation

Members of the local Eastern Star lodge gathered at their rooms on Friday evening, June 30, for a special meeting featuring a sumptuous Argo-F2 hosted dinner. After the meal, candidates were initiated and out of town guests arrived from Clinton, Denver, Savanna, Lost Nation, and neighboring areas.

Thomas Peter Hansen longtime Argo resident dies at his home after three years of heart illness. Born in Schleswig Holstein Germany in 1862 he came to Iowa as a child, lived near Teed's Grove and Carroll County, later ran the Argo feed mill, father of eight, a Mason and church member. Funeral at Argo church led by Rev. Clark Williams with Chadwick Lodge to participate. burial in Argo cemetery.

Havoc film wins four hundred medals for bravery

The production of Havoc earned 400 medals for bravery and service to honor the men who aided the film. Five weeks of night warfare filmed battle scenes under a corps of six army officers including four Allied and two ex-German commanders. Army engineers built a complete encampment for the project. The drama depicts society amid a realistic wartime backdrop with London night life staged as grand and spectacular.

Spelling Contest at Thomson Opera House Promises Old Time Fun

York residents and especially youth will witness a spelling contest at the Thomson Opera House on Friday May 14 sponsored by the Review. Fifteen to twenty scholars from area country schools and Consolidated Grade school will compete with Prof. Burridge of Clinton Business College officiating as announcer and judge. No prizes, no admission charged, and all participants will be treated fairly as the event showcases words published weekly by the Review and a 2000-word mispronounced words booklet. Teachers are to hold school spelling contests to publish participants' names in the next issue.

Senior Play at Thomson Opera House May 12

The Seniors of the Y. C. H. 8 present Clarence by Booth Tarkington at the Thomson Opera House on Wednesday evening May 12. The group pays a royalty of 25 dollars for the single night performance and hopes for strong turnout. Also notes Will Strubb returns from Michigan visit and Jackson Davis relocates his saw mill to Elizabeth for a long job.
