A two part firemanship training course for district volunteer firemen will start Monday evening at the Thomson Fire Station. Part II follows May 15 with sessions May 22 May 29 June 5 and June 12 under the University of Illinois Extension Division. Instructor is Mr Clifford Binnnger.
Members of the local fire department express gratitude to the Lions Club and the American Legion for helping purchase a new resuscitator for the Thomson ambulance. The instrument is the latest and most efficient type and has already aided early transportation to hospital.
Forty-one kindergartners visited the Savanna Army Depot fire station on Tuesday then traveled to Old Mill Park for refreshments. Their teacher Mrs. Clark and four mothers Mrs. Holmquist Mrs. Dwayne Bielema Mrs. Don Cramer and Mrs. Leslie Grim accompanied them.
FHA girls host Hobo Day on May 13 from 9 00 a m to 2 00 p m to raise funds. They offer window washing car washing babysitting yard cleaning and housework with calls to Thomson Argo and Savanna for service.
The Hickey family reports their son Private Alan K. Hickey has begun basic training at Fort Knox Kentucky. His address lists Pvt E 1 54816170 B 164 USATCA Fort Knox KY 40121 1st Platoon.
The school board will convene at 7 30 PM on Monday May 15 to discuss district matters and upcoming agenda items.
Otto Switzer of Thomson and Mrs Jesse Dauphin of Savanna renewed vows in an evening ceremony at the Methodist Church in Rockford last Wednesday. The couple are on a wedding trip.
Mrs Gertie Kindle observed her 83rd birthday with a cake ice cream and coffee. Mrs Kindle recovering from a fractured hip walks with a walker. Wayne Drake and family moved from a Bluff farm to Argo Fay. Ralph Townsend moved to Route 84 Thomson. Wayne Drakes phone 259 2021.
The WSCS of Thomson Methodist Church will host a Mother-Daughter Tea at 7 30 pm on Wednesday May 17. All women of the church are invited to attend.
Mrs. Viola Roggendorf and Mrs. Robert Falls shopped in Clinton on Wednesday. Mrs. Grim of Argona visited friend Mrs. Vita Bennett at the Home. Miss Grace Puterbaugh from the Home spent last Wednesday in Savannah and attended a Methodist Church potluck supper with friends.
Mrs Dora Wiebenga was a supper guest Saturday evening with her sister Mrs Grace Bentcheler and family of Fulton. Mrs Pearl Fields was also a guest.

The Cub Scouts earned 86 dollars from a Carnival held on April 28. A large crowd enjoyed activities including fish pond, target pistol shoot, balloon dart, weight and age guess, ring toss, penny toss, basketball shoot, bowling, ring the bottle, spill the bottles, and bingo. Prizes were largely Cub Scout made den projects.
The next Pack meeting is on June 3 and will feature the Pine Wood Derby with all cars required this year. Plans are available from the den mother for 50 cents. Fun Day at Canyon Camp is set for July 8.
Monday offers sandwiches calico salad fruit milk. Tuesday features chicken and noodles spinach or lima beans bread and butter cheese cookies milk. Wednesday serves roast beef potatoes and gravy buttered carrots bread and butter apple crisp milk. Thursday presents pizza jello salad with cabbage bread and butter cake milk. Friday includes ham salad sandwiches baked beans apple sauce milk.
Mrs. Ada Ashby marked her 87th birthday on April 26 with a potluck at the Mount Carroll home of her granddaughter Mrs. Paul Strukhoff as 30 relatives gathered The guest list included Lyle and Hal Ashby and families from Thomson and Mount Carroll as well as Don Ashbys from Savanna and others Glenn Spencer and Ashby relatives. She has four living sons Glen Hal Lyle and Ray in a Tipton Iowa nursing home along with 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren Wayne died in 1965.
Mr and Mrs Ernest Rathje and Mr and Mrs P A Schroeder of Sabula attended the Walgreen Estate open house near Dixon last Saturday.
Sick Mrs Anna Badtke of Morrison suffered a stroke Monday morning and is in Morrison Hospital. Mrs Edna Roggendorf entered Mercy Hospital last Sunday as a medical patient. Virgil MacDonald village policeman remains a patient at Jane Lamb Hospital after surgery and plans further procedures. Doug Krahn, son of Mr and Mrs Krahn, spent the weekend in Savanna Hospital as a medical patient. Eli McClain has been a medical patient in Mercy Hospital. Charles Hogg returned home after a brief hospitalization. Dorothy Wiebenga of Fulton is her daughter in law.
The Thomson junior high class travels Friday by bus at 4 30 am departing for Springfield visiting the State Museum and Capitol Guided tours cover Lincoln sites from his home to the tomb Then to New Salem State Park and Prairie Run for a smorgasbord supper They return by midnight with Mr Mailand and Mrs accompanying the group.
Mrs. Katherine Mennenga aged 61 died Sunday at her home in Rantoul after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the American Lutheran church in Rantoul with burial in the church cemetery. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Gordon and Vivian of Lanark and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Helms and daughters of Baileyville.
Mrs. Herman Hagg travels to Berlin Wisconsin for a weekend with her mother and returns Tuesday. Numerous neighbors and relatives visit Thomson homes including the Leavens Br own families Huizenga Carro ll Raab Hamm England Wiebenga Root and others. A wedding in Warren brings Luella Heitman and Lorinda Brummond to attend Lynn Fleming and Charlotte Rowe nuptials.
Thirty club members and guests attended the annual May banquet on May 4 at Marion Smith's Tea Room. Mt Carrol Mrs Gladys Meyers spoke on club duties. A book review of Those Who Love by Irving Stone drew praise. Tickets for Oklahoma at Timberlake Theater June 29 went on sale during the meeting.

Lawrence Bruckner son of Mr and Mrs Lloyd Bruckner and Thomson FFA member will receive the State Farmer Degree at the Illinois FFA Convention in Urbana on June 14. Only about 2 percent of Illinois FFA members earn this high honor. recipients are chosen for leadership community and school involvement. He has held multiple FFA offices and won several contests and scholarships. He now owns diverse livestock crops and plans to attend college.
The Thomson Legion Auxiliary will meet Monday May 15 at 7 30 p m at the Legion Hall. The PTA holds a regular meeting Thursday May 11 at 8 00 p m in the school cafeteria. This will be the last meeting of the school year.
The York Progressive Unit of Home Extension meets Monday May 15 at 6 30 p m for a potluck supper at Carol Bielema s home. Roll call is a bulb or plant exchange. Cleone Miller and Vada Carroll present the major lesson Housing Needs as we grow older while Carol Bielema presents the minor lesson Whats New for the Home.
Five ladies from the Thomson Parent-Teacher Association are headed to the State Convention of Parent-Teacher Associations at the Conrad Hilton Hotel in Chicago. Mrs Gene Diephuis and Mrs Holmquist depart Thursday, while Mrs McCrudden Mrs Senneff and Mrs Jim Green depart Friday.
Mr and Mrs Claude Grim and Mr and Mrs Larry Grim of Clinton along with Mr and Mrs Leslie Grim and family spent Saturday in Washington Iowa for the wedding of their granddaughter Barbara Grim to Richard Westprahl of Cedar Rapids. The ceremony was at United Presbyterian Church with a church parlor reception and a buffet dinner for 90 visiting relatives and friends.
A five day old baby boy joined the Warren Waltrips as Rodney James last Thursday. The couple also has a daughter named Laurie living with them.
The PTA agenda tonight includes a talk by a Clinton Job Corps Center speaker and a discussion on hosting a foreign student from Thomson. The idea is that a local agricultural area offers growth for a student and that the community would gain cultural understanding from a yearlong exchange. Hostesses for the evening are Mrs. Plumley, Mrs. Marken, Mrs. Atherton, Mrs. St. Ores Jr., and Mrs. Shreffler.
The annual Alumni Banquet will be held Saturday May 27 in the school gymnasium. Alumni cards are urged for dinner planning. F H A girls led by Mrs Rubye Hill will serve. Jack Busch and his orchestra provide dancing music. 25 and 50 year class members will be honored. RETURNS TO EAST Mrs Burton Prins moves to Harve de Grace Md sharing an apartment with a fellow student near her husband Burton in Officers Candidate School at Aberdeen Proving Ground. Mrs McGinnis Junior McGinnis and Mrs Albert Prins drove her to Chicago airport last Wednesday.
Miss Rebecca Jo Witt observed her eleventh birthday last Friday with her friend Jane Schoening as an overnight guest.
Black Oak Grange held its regular meeting at Ideal Grange Hall. Carrie Haas announced a May 21 style show at Burns Grange hall. Members voted to send two youths to a June Waterloo Iowa camp. May 7 Go to Church Sunday with picnic at Black Oak Grange hall. auxiliary holds all day May 11 and social May 18. June lunch by Marshall Farthing, Alvin Reiff. Program featured songs poems and readings. pancake and sausage supper after.
The final meeting of the school year for the Music Boosters is Monday May 15 at 8 00 in the school cafeteria Elect officers will be elected and installed The nominating committee includes Mrs Lawrence Halfman Mrs Merle Prins and Mrs Henry Wiersema The group plans to raise funds to buy new uniforms for the Varsity Band and urges all band parents to attend and participate
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Eninger of Iowa City were supper guests of Mrs. Nellie Creighton Tuesday. Mrs. Archie Green was also a visitor.
York Baptist Church held a share-a-dish supper and family night last Sunday with 45 attendees including guests. Marion Overman led the program. Robert Hill led prayer. Sylvia Witt played accordion. Rev Grafft showed Navaho Indians slides narrated by Michael Hill. A Savanna Army chaplain spoke about three years in Germany with slides of churches. The event closed with a hymn.
About 70 friends and relatives attended an open house at the Methodist Church in Milledgeville honoring Richard Sack who leaves today for Viet Nam. The event also celebrated Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Brinkman and children Danny and David, moving to Tucson, with Mrs. Sack to live in Clinton while overseas.
