Thom son student Sippel suffers concussion at school

Merrie Jo Sippel a Thom son high school junior suffered a brain concussion after being struck on the head by a badminton racket Monday at school. She was taken to the Savannah clinic for treatment and released home where she remains confined to bed but improving. Pvt. Franklin LaShelle arrived in Thomson to visit his wife and family before returning to Fort Monmouth New Jersey. Karen Halfman stayed overnight with Kara Lou Grim while Everett Eslinger and Jennie Griswold hosted visitors from Clinton. Lynn Babcock of Sterling and Robert Brainerd of Rock Falls visited Mrs. Babcock’s parents Ray Rupple.

York Community High Board discusses teachers and district actions

York Community High School Board met May 7 in the library with six members present. They reviewed credentials for Lynda Kay Weir and Barbara Marie Rich, graduates of Southern Illinois University, for home economics positions and considered interviewing them. The board discussed stove replacements, a salary adjustment for Mr. Raikes to $5,000 for 1962-63, and district boundary co operation with District 174. Additional items included farm property transfer, hog housing repairs, farm bills payment, and plans for a joint meeting to finalize co terminous district implementation by July 1 1962. Visitors included Mrs. Dale Allen and Mrs. Turner from Oxford Junction Iowa.

Teacher Burns Hand During Chemistry Experiment

Richard Wunderline a science instructor at Thomson high school accidentally burned his left hand with phosphorus during a Monday chemistry experiment. The phosphorus splattered and ignited from a bunsen burner. he was taken to Dr. L B Hussey's office where the burn was dressed.

Grant supports East Lansing doctoral candidate Demaree

John Demaree of East Lansing Michigan receives a Ford Foundation fellowship for the 1965 66 academic year as a doctoral candidate in personnel and production administration. He previously served as senior industrial engineer and head of industrial engineering at Packaging Corp of America Grand Rapids. Broken leg for seven year old in tractor accident

Richard Ottens seven year old son of Mr and Mrs Stanley Ottens of Wacker a former Thomson area resident sustained a broken leg April 23 when a tractor driven by his father ran over him after the bicycle he rode went out of control and into the tractor path.

Henry Kane 83 Former Thomson Resident Dies

Henry Kane 83 of Fulton died at 7 a m Sunday in Mercy Hospital Clinton after a six hour stay He was born July 16 1878 in Ustick Township Whiteside County Ill and was a former Thomson and Fulton businessman He married Ethie Williams in Thomson who died in 1938 They moved to Fulton in 1922 He is survived by a son Leland Chris Kane of Fulton a daughter Eleanor Peters of Norfolk Va nine grandchildren seven great grandchildren and a brother John Kane of Chicago Funeral Mass was held at Immaculate Conception Church Fulton and burial was in Calvary Hill Cemetery Fulton.
