New corn loan plan to debut after July fifteenth

County Farm Adviser M D Roske Mt Carroll says 1934 corn loans due July 1 with 55 cents per bushel loan value, 4 percent interest, and insurance. Loans may be repaid in full or partially before July 1, with partial releases authorized by CCC. A second loan plan for 1935 contract producers is planned after July 1, with loan per bushel determined by production feed needs and market price.

Scouts Sign Huge Summer Camp Enrollment The 250 Strong

Grant area scouts report record camp enrollment for the summer with 58 boys from Stephenson County and large numbers from Grant Carross and Carrell counties. Camp opens June 23 at Fish Lake near Sauk City Wisconsin. Reservations available through local troop leaders.

Rural Schools to Hold Commencements at Chadwick and Mt Carroll

County superintendent Miss Martha Ashby announced eighth grade commencements for Carroll county rural schools. Chadwick will host Tuesday evening May 21 and Mt Carroll on Wednesday evening May 22 at 8 oclock in the high school gyms. List of graduates not yet available and program details to be finalized next week.

April Dairy Herd Report Highlights Carroll County Leaders

The Carroll County Dairy Herd Improvement Association reports April averages of 811 pounds milk and 190 cows tested, with Ward Weidman leading 16 grade Holsteins at 1,267 pounds of milk and 41.6 pounds of butterfat. Stransdale No 1, with 39 purebred Holsteins, placed second at 1,071 pounds and 26.9 fat, while Ben Williamson’s herd ranked third at 1,018 pounds milk and 37.5 fat. Masters and Masters, Keitn, and Edwin Keim show notable performances among other top herds.

Dan Cupid again worked in Carroll County in April counting six marriages, the same as in April last year. Officials note the figure is modest but satisfactory for the period.

Savanna Earns Tenth at Gateway Classic in Clinton

Savanna High School placed tenth in a large field at the Gateway Classic in Clinton, earning 12 points while Mt Carroll took eighteenth with one. Cimino of Savanna won the mile with 4:45, Canavan placed third in the 400, and Savanna’s A Wilson finished second in the 440. Baccalaureate is June 2, night June 4, and commencement June 6, with the alumni program and dance June 6.

Mt Carroll Commercial Club Plans Summer Drive

Mt Carroll Commercial Club directors met to continue the work of the late Cal M Feezer and laid plans for the annual fund drive after Memorial Day to support summer activities. They assigned Memorial Day observance plans to the American Legion Post and scheduled a joint meeting to finalize the arrangements.

Carroll County Receives State School Fund Share

Carroll County will get 272,752.83 of 33,480 claimed from the State School Distributive Fund. Miss Martha Ashby, county superintendent of schools, reports the year’s Occupational Fund share at 30,727.77, with installments for March and April awaiting timing from the state auditor in Springfield.

Camp captions at Mt Carroll look slim this year

Mt Carroll faces slim odds of hosting a CCC camp again as army officers and an IRA representative found no suitable sites after a week of visits. The previous temporary site is ruled out, and plans for five permanent structures of 130 feet each were discussed but not feasible.

Edward J. Barrett today announced approval of a 19 percent dividend totaling $63,522.10 to depositors of the Shomway State Bank Milledgeville. Former Mt Carroll Girl's Husband Killed in Plane Crash

James G. Montijo well known for mentoring Amelia Earhart was killed when his plane crashed near Walsenberg Colorado after attempting a forced landing following apparent engine trouble. He had taught in country schools and was connected to Alten Kesler and Carroll County relatives. The tragedy involved a local school teacher who witnessed the crash.
