The county clerk issued ten marriage licenses in April. Of 207 total licenses, eight were issued to residents outside Carroll County. The remaining licensees hailed from other Illinois cities and from Wisconsin and Iowa.
Joe Smith and Howard Campbell of Savanna were seriously injured Monday when Smiths Studebaker left the pavement on a curve near Plum River Route 80. The car overturned twice, Campbell was thrown into the river but crawled out, Smith suffered a compound fracture of the left leg. both were transported to hospital as the wrecked sedan was hauled to Savanna.
Rep John A. Bingham of Galena was fined 100 dollars and 2.40 dollars costs for reckless driving after a Thursday collision near the Route 52 and 56 junction in Savanna. No injuries were reported as the Bingham car hit a coupe, a telephone pole, a barbed wire fence, and a track before stopping in the Jenks pasture. The mishap caused minor damage to both vehicles and the Bingham machine.
Savanna high school captured third place in the district commercial contest held Saturday April 25 at Galena high school. Thomson finished fifth with 10 points while Savanna totaled 21. Amain high school of Freeport won first and Galena second. The Savanna senior typing and shorthand teams along with Marv Goss and Jane Sartweil are eligible to compete in the sections meet at Morris on May 3.
Equipment from American Utilities Service arrives in Savanna and is moved to the new Northwestern Wisconsin Utilities building. Three cars load the items and shipment came via Milwaukee Road. Senior typing and shorthand teams win first. Mary Goss takes first in individual senior typing. Kathleen Wilson places third in Savanna’s senior individual typing event.
Garett Savanna paid a $50 fine in county court on Monday after being charged with carrying concealed weapons. He was held in county jail since his arrest in Savanna on April 2 following a quarrel with five other Mexicans. It was alleged he fired four shots from a revolver. A gun was found in his possession at arrest.
Scouts announce the fourth annual Jamboral for Boy Scouts of the U S Grant Council covering Jo Daviess Stephenson Carroll counties in Wisconsin to be held Friday evening May 15 in Platteville. Contests include fire building knot tying and water boiling with awards for top places. A court of honor for Carroll County district is set in Savanna and certificates and badges must be at the Freeport area office by May 11.
Farm Adviser Roske says the failure to extend rural electric lines stems from treating the issue as individual farmer duties rather than a community responsibility. King King of Savanna pleaded guilty in county court Tuesday to wife and child abandonment. The charge was fled Monday afternoon. judge Grave continued the case until next Monday when sentence will be passed. He was released on bonds of 1000 dollars. County tavern licenses were issued to four persons in Carroll county by M S Rogers, chairman. They are James Mummert Argo-Fa Fort Fleming Fair Haven John Kelzen Washington and Charles Smith Cen ter Bill.

W Weidman herd of 17 grade Holsteins regains the lead in CHIA average production for April, with 124 pounds of milk and 29.5 pounds of butterfat per cow. The county group’s average was 814 pounds milk and 29.5 pounds fat, with 47 cows above 40 pounds fat and several herds following in the top five. Stransdale, Ward Weidman, and L B Holsteins appear among the high producers. Derrer's herd ranks second last month with 1031 pounds milk and 96.8 pounds fat.
