The United States plans a nationwide sale of four new Treasury securities from ten cents to ten thousand dollars to fund aid for Britain and other defense partners. Postal savings stamps, defense savings bonds, Series F and Series G bonds will be offered with aims to spur a savings campaign and curb inflation.
County assessors met with the treasurer and a state representative to set valuations for the spring tax assessment. Basic values for cattle, horses, goats, sheep, swine, household goods, poultry, grain and other items were listed, with many figures unchanged from last year and some modest increases.
William French Fin lay received $100 in damages from Kyle J Tur ney after a Carroll county circuit court jury found Turney guilty of assault and battery. French sought $7,500 for injuries and medical costs. The trial spanned three days with jurors Anme Collier Alvin Myers Clifford Parker Victor Myers Pearl Rausch Lillian Platte Charles Moll Charles Gaul John Menze Roscoe Almquist Lowell Teeter and Mary Frey.
Savanna Scout Troop 45 earned a C rating on March 22 in the first aid-a-ree of the U S Grant Council held in the Stockton school gym. Members John Henry Joseph Withhart Michael Nowak Carl Engaldo and Robert Cottrall represented the troop. Wisconsin troops Earn A ratings Galena troop 1 will go to the sectional meet at Janesville on April 5. Illinois State Employment Service urges Defense industry staffing and urges workers to register for Defense jobs.
The Carroll County Agricultural Conservation Committee informs farmers who did not raise wheat in 1939 1940 or 1941 to apply for a 1942 farm allotment. Written requests must be submitted to the Mt. Carroll county office promptly as the State Committee will set a cutoff date for new allotment requests.
The deadline for all 1940 Agricultural Conservation Program payments is March 31, 1941. Anyone who believes they are owed a payment and has not received it should contact the Carroll County A. C. A. office immediately.
Plans are set for the Northwest District music contests in Forreston on Saturday March 29. About 1000 students from 21 northwestern Illinois schools will compete in classes A B C and CD in solo ensemble chorus and bands. A noon directors luncheon precedes an evening concert featuring Stockton’s Boys Chorus and the DeKalb High School Band.

District and state officers unveil a full program for the Federated Women’s clubs county convention to be held at Bethel Evangelical Church Shannon on April 1. Activities include registration, assembly singing, reports, book review, a luncheon, readings, an address by Mrs. Holmquist, a Sophie Kerr comedy play, and various organizational business items.
Voters in rural and community high school districts will elect directors on Saturday April 12. Rural districts choose one three year term director, with vacancies filled in some cases. Chadwick and Thomson districts each select one member for the community high school board. Chadwick grade school elects one director and Thomson Consolidated grade school two. Term expirations include Robert Lego and K W Senneff in Chadwick areas, Rush Carroll in York district, and G A Smith plus Charles Wilt in Thomson districts. Numerous rural terms also end this spring, listing officials across many local districts.
Forrest Heeren a 25 year old University of Illinois faculty member suffered cuts to face hands and legs after his car collided with a truck driven by Donald Munz five miles south of Dixon on wet pavement. Munz and truck owner George Sears were uninjured as both vehicles were badly damaged. A separate county notice shows a marriage license issued to Emmett Zumdahl and Velda Harter, and an application filed for Lyle Bailey and Betty Hoy of Savanna.
The defense housing coordinator released minimum standards for 200 Hanover homes at Savanna Army Depot. Most will be two and three bedroom detached singles or duplexes with specified room sizes, storage, ventilation, and community space including two acres of open space and a bomb shelter site.
Cooperating with the Illinois State Board for Vocational Education the National Youth Administration plans a limited number of farm shop buildings in communities with populations of 2500 or less. Designs to be set by local boards with a 33 by 80 foot frame building as an option. Details are being worked out by NYA and local education boards statewide.
The Morton high school basketball team clinched the state championship with a victory Saturday night. The win came as local fans celebrated a standout season led by top players and a strong defensive showing.
Selective service questionnaires were mailed Monday to an additional 60 Carroll county registrants with county order numbers 400 to 460. Names listed include Robert C. Spearman and Vernon D. Kness among many others. Next circuit court session at Mt. Carroll set for Monday March 31 with Judge Wheat presiding. petit jury panel dismissed last week.
Authorities search for a 1941 Dodge believed involved in a Thursday crash five miles west of Chadwick on route 78. Ronald Van Buer, seven, suffered a broken leg and brain concussion, driver fled the scene. Witness described a dark car with a wide yellow stripe. sheriff and state police alerted for repairs and similar cars.
The 1941 official Illinois highway map highlights changes in route numbers across Ogle County and northern Illinois. Walter A. Rosenfield announced the free map at the state capitol, noting earlier route reassignments, additions of county seats, and updated population indices from the 1940 census. The map lists railroads, institutions, parks, airports, and defense job opportunities through the Illinois State Employment Service, which reports over 166,000 jobs filled in 1940.
