The Otto Randolph Bridge Co of Chicano completed cement pouring on the Jenson Creek bridge abutments located miles east of Thomson along Route 171 on Sunday. Crews plan to heat and dry the cement and spread gravel so the project can finish. grading operations are expected to resume soon and paving is anticipated later.
A large dredge owned by Mir Black of Walnut arrives at the Savanna-York district to start removing sandbars and dirt from Doty Creek to handle spring flood flows. Operator Earl Bishop and Harry Morgan of Thomson will work 22 hours daily, with plans for a second dredge may follow. Directors F. J. Stranksy and Bizine Peck oversee the drainage district.
C. Kettle, office manager of the pension division, said first payments in Wisconsin will be delayed because county welfare commissions failed to supply correct information forms. About 130 applications from various counties were returned for correction due to data inconsistencies, likely delaying first checks past April 19. In Carroll county, 445 applications were on file. G. Reiff investigated applications over 75 with many set to be sent to Springfield this week.
A temporary county committee of four will organize in Carroll County to explain and implement the new soil conservation program. Members Freeman Law, R. Holm, Le Shaver, and Harold Manning join Paris Adviser Roske in arranging community education meetings across townships, with a state session in Springfield this Friday for program details. Permanent committees will be elected the week of March 30, with meetings scheduled through April 2 in multiple townships and locations.
One hundred twenty pheasants are distributed to Carroll County sportsmen clubs for breeding. Four hens and a cock go to each chapter, with Milledgeville Lanark Shannon Mt Carroll Thomson Argo Chadwick receiving birds. Chadwick chapter gets extra pens. some birds also sent to Savanna area proving grounds. Warden Hand aims to secure quail stock, as last winter’s severe cold and deep snow reduced oral supply and caused many losses.
Two gubernatorial hopefuls Gus Horner and Dr Hernan Bande spoke in Savanna and Bandesen spoke in Mt. Carrell Tuesday afternoon. They were accompanied by supporters also seeking state offices.
Carroll county school districts received state funds totaling 5127.99 with checks distributed to township treasurers. County Supt. County sportsmen protest plans to discontinue the state fish preserve around Sand Slough after rumors of a move to allow commercial fishing. Letters to the state Department of Conservation and local wardens seek preservation. clubs plan to urge keeping Sand Slough in a preserve for pleasure fishing, with Warden Mandatat offering cooperation.
Shropshire will visit Mt Carroll on Friday April 3 to discuss insect control and preventive measures against chinch bugs white grubs southern corn rootworm and other garden pests. Farm Adviser Roske announced the talk as part of ongoing efforts to monitor pest damage and improve wheel control spraying methods and pest trapping. Farmers are urged to attend and can expect practical guidance and updates on new materials and techniques.
Assessors from local townships will gather in Mt Carroll on Friday to receive books and supplies for the coming two months. State tax commission attendance was anticipated but no confirmation was received. Attending members include Law, Adams, Mitchell, Payn, Baum, Kesh, Wolfensl, Dial, Kline, Cramer, Saarpe, Maven, Strruch, Musser, and Fabre.
Power County officials search for a man who forged Kenneth Law's signature on three checks drawn on a Lanark bank. The fake signatures were discovered after Law received the cancelled checks. two were payable to Savanna and one to Service Mation in Savanna.
Lynn Morgan began the week on Review circulation work in Carrel county, continuing prior duties with the newspaper. The item notes past service and current assignment within the county.
The American Utilities Service corporation plans moving its main offices from Chicago to Savanna after May 1, consolidating Northwestern Utilities and other units. The Minneapolis Minnesota offices will be closed, with only small branches remaining in Chicago and Minneapolis. The Savanna site will house five offices on the second floor with remodels to the merchandise and other departments. The change aims at more efficient operations as the Savanna location was chosen for central territory access. Executives Atlas Crawford, E.G. Waters, and others will relocate to Savanna along with the division leadership under Leo A. Lankie who has led the unit since its formation.
More than 20 000 ballots are printed for Carroll county primary. Eleven thousand Republican ballots and 9 200 Democratic ballots ordered. The law adds 100 extra ballots per vote from last general election plus a reserve. Absentee ballots available until April 11. Severe penalties deter abuse of the absentee act. Misuse carries fines up to 2000, jail terms, disenfranchisement, and possible five year ineligibility for office.
Fragmented transfer list shows names and parcels from the town’s real estate notices. Entries mention individuals such as Civamen Tho Mevinan and Gleeson, with references to townships and spouses in described parcels.
The Carroll County Young Republican organization will hold a meeting Friday night in the courthouse at Mt. Carroll.
Countywide annual town meetings will be held in all fourteen townships on Tuesday April 7. Voters must approve yearly reports and can decide if reports are read at the meeting or published. Auditors will present the coming year tax levies, prepared March 31 for voter approval the following week. In York township a cemetery trustee position opens as R D Bennett’s term ends this spring.
Three wills were admitted to probate in county court this week. Fred P. Kenyon of Argo, Fa and George B. Woodside of Savanna left estates valued at about 20 000 and 11 000 respectively to spouses and named executors. Phillip Kradle of Chadwick also had his will admitted with estate valued around 11 000, bequeathing to widow Mary Kradle. County officials report various probate actions and local notices across Carroll County.
The Savanna spring fair returns to Lincoln School gym April 1 3 with booths nearly sold out and no admission charge. The event runs 2 PM to 8 PM daily featuring entertainment from local talent and rural district acts. Committee members Spence Necbitt chairmen Mrs Lucile Stransky Carl Attenbein Jr Louis Corey and B C Pickard oversee planning.

One hundred fifteen cash relief checks were issued Saturday at the Carroll County Emergency Relief Commission office in Savannah. Verna Landherr, administrator, notes this was the second distribution since the cash payment program began, following last month’s issuance.
A severe storm disrupted power across Argue Thomson and Chadwick area as high line poles blew over and caused a blackout until dawn. Repair crews walked miles to reach breaks due to mud, restoring Thomson by 10 PM and Chadwick near 3 AM. Roads blocked by fallen trees and damaged farm buildings scattered. ignition wires shorted and straw stacks toppled in rural farms.
