More than 10,000 Illinois National Guardsmen from sixty communities will take part in their first post war 15 day encampment during July and August 1948. Brigadier General Kenneth Buchanan announced the plan. Lund given probation after guilty plea in replevin case
Clarence O Lund 34 transient pleaded guilty in circuit court to a charge of issuing a fraudulent check and was placed on probation for five years by Judge C Dixon. He must serve 60 days in county jail before probation and was fined 300 which will be paid in installments. Starting Monday four Burlington passenger trains through Savanna were discontinued under a federal order cutting coal burning services by 25 percent. Trains 51 and 52 St Louis to Savanna carried Thomson mail, leaving only a single daily mail run via a southbound morning train. Trains 53 and 54 Chicago to west coast were dropped. none stopped in the county except Savanna, likely minimal local impact.
