No More Federal Corn Loans After March 31

County warehouse board announces no further federal corn loans will be granted after March 31. Applicants must file by that date. To date Carroll county has issued about four loans while several cribs have been sealed with local loans.

Hobo Robs Youth of Four Dollars Then Grabs Dinner

A hobo robs a youth of four dollars on Friday and later takes a job washing a car to earn dinner before robbing the same youth again in a separate incident. Police investigated and sought leads in the community.

Three transients nabbed after Byron robbery of youth

A 17 year old farm youth Merle Rowland was robbed of about $4 by a transient who hid in a barn on the Maynard Gothard farm between Mt Carroll and Lanark. Three transients were arrested at Byron after riding a Milwaukee train and held for identification though Rowland could not identify the bandit.

Three Divorces Granted in Circuit Court

Judge Harry Edwards presiding in Mt. Carroll last Wednesday granted three divorces. Elizabeth Blackburn of Savanna was divorced from John Blackburn for cruelty. Dorotha Colliflower of Chadwick won a desertion decree from John E. Colliflower of Milledgeville. Valeria M. Bogle and John C. Bogle of Savanna were separated for cruelty.

Fulton Drops Semi Final To Rock Island In Sectional Final

Fulton high school fell to Rock Island 50 to 44 in the Moline sectional final ending its run after defeating Walnut and East Moline in earlier rounds. State School Funds Distributed to County Townships

Checks totaling 4202.89 were mailed to school treasurers in Carroll County townships early this week. The distribution covers the second 1937 payment and back taxes for 1930 1931 and 1932, as part of funds received by the county superintendent of schools.

Speech Meet to Be Held in Freeport

Three Carroll County schools compete in a Northern Illinois High School Speech League sub district held at Freeport Senior High on March 18. State Plans Road Development Program This Year

Illinois public works department announces a roadside development program covering 85 miles of highways with soil erosion control maintenance cost reduction and beautification goals. Spring work includes 35 projects across 165 miles funded by 212000 federal dollars and 57 projects of 149 miles funded by 56557 state funds. Fall plans include 23 projects over 71 miles with 102000 federal funds. fall funding amounts remain to be determined.

Carroll man arrested on reckless driving chase

A Carroll man was taken into custody on a reckless driving charge after a lengthy pursuit. The incident prompted police to pursue through several town areas before the suspect was stopped without further incident.

WPA approves 25000 dollar project for Savanna depot

News from Savanna reports approval of a WPA project valued at 26000 dollars for the Savanna Ordnance Depot. Funds will fund labor for road and related improvements. Labor will be recruited through WPA channels and no applications will be taken at the depot. Work is expected to begin within weeks.

County to Receive 423 Checks from AAA Farmers

AAA will pay 38,217 dollars in county funds to local farmers. The program distributes 423 checks last Saturday indicating monetary aid and local agricultural support.

Local Men Plan To Attend State Meet In Springfield

Carroll county farm operators receive 423 checks totaling 38217.98 for 1937 agricultural conservation program payments. Elver Eisseller says more payments will follow. He and about 30 community committeemen plan to travel to Springfield for a statewide AAA meeting at the Armory with Claude Wickard Governor Horner and other officials expected to speak.

Carroll Man Charged With Reckless Driving

Glen Sack of Mt. Carroll was arrested Saturday by State Highway Officer Leo Hill and Harry Blackburn on a charge of reckless driving. A county court hearing was held and continued. Bond was set at $200 and Sack released on his own recognizance. Officers said they chased him from Lanark to Mt. Carroll as he sped 70 to 80 mph and passed cars on hills.

School Elections Set for Saturday April 9

Saturday April 9 is the date for the annual election of school board members in county districts. Board members in the county seat are asked to visit the county superintendent's office to pick up election supplies and instructions.

Plans for Carroll County stock feeders annual banquet at Lanark Masonic Temple March 31 with 6 30 p m banquet opening. Special speakers include Prof E T Robbins and Walter Howe of the Chicago Producers Commission association. A two section livestock feeders tour of farms in Carroll County is planned for the day, with visits to two farms per trip.
