Lyle Helle an 18 year old Savanna youth son of Mr and Mrs Sheldon Helle escaped injury when his 1947 Plymouth left the highway two miles east of Lanark during a heavy rain storm and turned over in the ditch. He was alone and on his way home from Oregon. The car was demolished.

The 15th District of the American Legion holds its statewide convention in Prophetstown on Sunday June 27. Cousin of Pilot Receives Photos of Plane Crash
Mrs. Ed Manning in Rockford received a letter from Los Angeles relatives with pictures of the crash landing of a DC-4 near Gage Oklahoma. Captain Charles Padesky of Los Angeles piloted the flight. The plane pancake landed and flames swept the craft seconds after but all 78 aboard were rescued. A Rockford woman and her son were among the passengers.

Grand Jurors Return Two Indictments in Carroll County
A Carroll County grand jury returned two indictments on the opening day of the June term. George Tudibat Jr. of Savanna faces three counts of burglary and larceny for allegedly taking about $50 from a Savanna gas station on March 6, 1954. Russell Miller and Elmer Lilly of Fair Haven Township are charged with entering a house rented by John Kistenmacher and taking items valued at about $100 on June 16, 1954. Kistenmacher had stored bedding and clothing at the house. Knorr later reported the loss and located some missing articles at Miller and Lilly’s home.
