Three Hats Enter Race for Illinois Constitutional Delegates

Three candidates have announced to run for the Illinois Constitutional Convention delegates from Senatorial District 35, which includes Stephenson Carroll Ogle Whiteside and Jo Daviess Counties. The non-partisan race may see a September 23 primary if more than four file.

Thomson Girls Softball Team Drops Two Close Games

The Thomson girls softball team lost two tight games this week. They were edged by Lanark 16 to 13 on Wednesday after bases loaded pressure in the final inning. A home game against Shannon’s team saw Thomson fall 18 to 13 as Shannon’s pitcher charged the field with fastballs. Next home game hosts Clinton Job Corps on Monday at 6 00 p m and organizers thank supporters of the bake sale.

Open House Fetes Mailands June 27

Mr and Mrs Farle Maitland and daughters will be honored at an informal open house to bid farewell as Mr Maitland leaves Thomson schools to take a similar role in Dodgeville Wisconsin. The gathering Friday June 27 from 7 30 to 10 pm in the school cafeteria is hosted by the Band Boosters and Band Club with light refreshments and a gift for Mr Maitland.

Mr and Mrs Fred Fiet of Thomson announce the sale of their K and K Grocery to Mr and Mrs Thom as Maus former Savanna residents now in Camanche Iowa The sale takes effect Monday June 23 Maus will manage a Geneseo IL store July 4 Fred serves Thomson Village board and the Fiets will continue to reside in Thomson The Clover Farm outlet was purchased by the Fiets in October 1966 and renamed K and K Grocery after the Fiets daughters Kathy and Karen No personnel changes are anticipated at the Thomson store.

Small Fry Pee Wees Win Fourth Straight in League Play

Thomson's small fry baseball team won their fourth straight by edging Chadwick 10 to 9 at home and routed Mount Carroll 13 to 3. Bob Gray sparked the Chadwick win with a leadoff single, steal, and score on Carl Wilkin's hit. Milledgeville looms next as the mid season tournament starts July 7 at Chadwick.

Denver Couple Complete CU Graduates After Night Courses

Allan L. Grimm and Barbara Jean Grimm, longtime Denver residents, completed their University of Colorado degrees in June 1969. Allan, an assistant purchasing agent for American Crystal Star Co., earned a master's in marketing after nine years of night courses. Barbara Jean, a Denver public school teacher, finished a master’s in special education while both supported each other’s studies.

Cars Sideswipe On Bluff Road

Autos driven by Mrs. Rachel Bennett and Alan Hartman collided on Bluff Road near the Ben Letcher farm. Both drivers escaped injury and Bennett’s son Aaron, a passenger, was thrown clear but unharmed. Vehicles ended in ditches. damage to Bennett’s car estimated at 400 dollars. No arrests. Thomson ambulance summoned but not used.

Thomson FFA Wins Again in American Heritage Contest

Thomson FFA boys place in the top seven for the fourth straight year in the American Heritage program. Gary K Madson presided at the Illinois State FFA convention where Thomson received fifth place. Committee members and 18 members with instructor William Gengenbach earned all expense trips to Washington for a year of service and study.

Lion's Broom Sale Begins Monday

The Thomson Lion's Cub club will hold its annual broom sale Monday and Tuesday evenings next week with a possible Wednesday evening. Brooms sell for 2 dollars each and all proceeds go to the Hadley School for the Blind and the Leader Dog School. Lions members are urged to attend.
