Jo-Carroll Co-op seeks funds for new electric lines
Representatives from Jo-Carroll Rural Electric Co-operative attend a Springfield meeting with REA officials to seek about 110000 in funds to build roughly 125 miles of electric line in Carroll and Daviess counties. The co-op has previously received 349000 for 300 miles of line and three mobile generating units. Over 500 members are now served, a 20 percent increase since start. The Elizabeth monthly meeting was held Monday evening.

Williams of Savanna O B Newcomer Lanark and Kingery Mt Carroll join county board of tax review for state tax commission session in Springfield. They are joined by County Clerk Walter Watson and State's Attorney John L Brearton. The board met to organize and set Newcomer as secretary and Mrs B L Smith as clerk. They will hear complaints on 1941 assessments on June 30 and July 1 and on each Monday and Tuesday in July at the courthouse.

Rents Rise as Hanover Mill Snakes Are Killed
In Thomson rents are advancing rapidly with all houses filled and paying tenants. Proving Grounds workers seek homes, driving up rates to twenty dollars monthly or more. In Hanover, Darwin Johns killed two large black snakes in the wool sorting room of the Hanover woolen mill, the first five and a half feet long and the second about five feet, within minutes of each other.

Five Indicted by June Grand Jury in Mount Carroll
The June grand jury indicted five suspects after evidence from the state's attorney. William D. Hartman pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and received one year probation and a one year license revocation. Cleop hus Lewin and three companions face two larceny charges over stolen autos and equipment. Loyal Ready and Richard Murphey, both of Savanna, face larceny counts. Murphey is jailed on parole violation while Ready is free on bail. Foreman Paul Lewis led the jury. defendant in the fifth indictment was unnamed.

Champ Steer Sargo Dies After Wire Ingestion
Mt Carroll Ill June 12 Sargo the Hereford steer that won the grand championship at the International Livestock Show in Chicago last winter died after eating a piece of wire found in hay. Miss Evelyn Asay, a Mt Carroll Four-H member and Frances Shimer student, raised Sargo from a calf and showcased him in multiple wins. The steer, sold for over 3500 to Firestone Rubber, had toured as a rubber company advertising feature before his death.

Hagstrom Low Bidder on 15 Savanna Depot Buildings
Hagstrom Construction of St. Paul Minnesota was the apparent low bidder for erecting 15 Savanna Ordnance depot buildings. The bid totaled 226582 dollars for a hospital group of nine structures and related facilities plus recreational buildings including a theater and chapel. All buildings must be completed within 60 days except the chapel which has a 90 day deadline.

Savanna youth claimed top honors in the fat lamb show held Monday. The Chicago Stock Yards market saw two Carroll county stockmen reach high sales. M. L. Woessner shipped 57 head of 800 pound heifers at 11.00 per cwt, and Lyle Wetzell sold 23 head of 1097 pound long yearling steers at 11.50 per cwt. Hog prices rose to a four year high with Thursday’s top at 9.85 per cwt and a daily average of 9.60.
