In Carroll county 45 youths participated in the National Youth Administration Student Work program this year. The NYA provided part time employment to students ages 16 to 24 to help them stay in high school or college. Illinois totals show 26 000 students in 956 high schools and 74 colleges benefited. Carroll county received $1 241 75 of the state NYA funds from a total current year allocation of $1 582 636.

Lamb Show Judge Dies in Accident Near DeKalb
John W. Rogier age 32 of Chicago died in a DeKalb hospital from injuries after a crash three miles east of DeKalb at Route 390 and Cortland road. He was to judge sheep at the Savanna 4 H club fat lamb show on June 17. Two DeKalb residents were seriously injured in the other car. An inquest was held and officials said another judge will likely be sent to fill Rogier's post at the show.

Stock Salesman Bound Over For Grand Jury
M W Lavin a 51 year old Chicago stock salesman was bound over to the grand jury on a charge of obtaining money under false pretenses. Bond set at 1500 was posted and he was released after several days in jail. Lavin allegedly sold 13 shares to a Thomson couple on December 21 1939 for more than 1000 but never delivered the stock certificates.

Negro Youth Slashed in Freeport After Camp Encounter
Isador Minor, a CCC enrollee from Mount Carroll, was cut on his head and arm during an argument with two white brothers in Freeport. A mob of more than 50 from the camp faced police as five officers dispersed the group. Minor reported age 17 and the camp offered no further information.
