Auditor Lueder Reports May Aid To Dependent Children

Springfield State Auditor Arthur C. Lueder announces May aid to dependent children totaled 1,915,723 dollars benefiting 56,989 children. The May amount rose by more than 19,000 dollars from April with Carroll county aiding 48 dependents for 1,085 dollars and Whiteside county aiding 167 dependents for 4,756 dollars.

Canoll county 4 H members may enter several livestock shows and judging tests in June. Events include a fur stock judging contest near Mt. Shannon Farmer killed by glancing bullet near Shannon

In a Shannon inquest Coroner J B Schreiter heard that Delbert Tomlinson 13 fired at rats with a .22 rifle outside a barn three miles from Shannon when his shot ricocheted from a concrete post and struck Shannon Farmer killing him within seconds. The victim, husband and father of a widow and four children Layton Frances and two others Otis Tomlinson of Sterling is listed as a survivor.

President Signs Bill To Reopen Schick Hospital

President Truman signs legislation reopening Schick Hospital in Clinton Iowa after a three year fight by citizens and veterans groups. Charles Moon of Milledgeville was elected commander of the Path district American Legion at the Dixon convention with about 2000 delegates from 43 posts in attendance. Hereford steers top Chicago market with 35 head sold

On June 8 in Chicago market R F Puterhaugh of Milledgeville Carroll county sold 35 Hereford steers at 36.25 per hundredweight, averaging 1116 per head, marking the day's high in a four month period. Several Wyoming loads later topped at 6.50 per hundredweight and top prices of 46.00 per hundred were reported for 15 loads from Cornbelt states.
