Open House Day at the Grade School featured annual exhibits with many attendees listed, while a Chautauqua festival advertised season tickets from June 6 to 9. The schedule includes 2:30 PM matinees and 8:00 PM evening shows with a diverse lineup and potential price changes by the local committee.
Thomson speaks in shock over the death of Mrs Nene Melendy at Jane Lamb hospital from heart failure after giving birth to a daughter who did not survive. Active in church and community, she leaves a grieving husband and family. Funeral Friday at three from the home, burial in Dunshee cemetery. obituary to follow next issue.
Decoration Day services were held in Thomson with flowers at Dunshee and Argo-Fa cemeteries. A 1 pm concert on Main Street preceded a program at the opera house where Rev. Lillie gave the main address. Many out of town visitors decorated graves and praised grounds upkeep by Louis Kness and John J. Carroll. The Junior class visited Davenport while seniors faced a rainy graduation night at the Methodist church.
Last week wound up school activities for Thomson and teachers have departed for their homes. Prof and Mrs Chesnutt will be with us again this fall and plan spending time in Wisconsin. They will also visit near Aledo. Miss Brown to DeKalb for summer with parents. Miss Butcher to Mississippi for summer school in New Orleans. Miss Fike to Milledgeville and Mr Bielemm to Fulton.
Notice from the U S Treasury dated June 15 1927 announces a new offering of twenty year United States Treasury Bonds bearing 3 percent interest with possible redemption after sixteen years. Second Liberty Loan bonds may be exchanged at par with accrued interest paid to June 15 1927. Exchange period is limited and may end around June 15. The York Community High School class of 1927 held graduation at the Methodist church with blue and gold colors and the motto Tonight We Launch Where Shall We Anchor. The ceremony featured speeches by Ruth Sheridan and Prof. Milo Whittaker, with diplomas presented by S. D. Chesnutt and music by a local orchestra. Separately, locals organized a Route 80 association at the village hall to push for the FultonSavanna segment, with officers elected and a bank balance of 162.17 to cover expenses and representation to Springfield.
The Thomson Bard kicks off the season with a concert this Saturday on Main Street. Fifteen total concerts this summer aim for clear skies and enjoyable music. The town praises the band’s neat white uniforms and hopes residents attend the rest of the series.
