Ninth Annual Argo-Fa Picnic Plans Near Completion

Ninth annual Argo-Fa picnic preparations are nearly finished with community groups uniting to host a record celebration. The event features foot races, nail driving, lifting and jumping contests, a 3 PM football game between Hanover and Thomson, and performances by the Carrill band and Grace Squires. A $100 purse underscores the raffle efforts, and Sack's Grove hosts the evening program with speeches and music.

D. C Griswold's Surprise Birthday Party

Oscar Griswold celebrated his fifty eighth birthday with a surprise party at his home Monday evening. His mother Mrs Rosanna Griswold and sisters Mesdames Harry Dyson Arch Atherton Ray Gleason and Miss Sylvia Dyson attended. They returned to town for refreshments and brought ice cream and cake. Oscar felt fine the next day aside from a slight stomach ache.

Northwestern Agents Win Yearly Prize for Insurance Sold

Ed Auman and Blaine Peck of Carroll claim first place in the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. annual prize contest for the largest amount of insurance sold during the year. Nine other competitors were close contenders. Names include Ensmore, Harry Carpenter, Will Mest, and Thomas Hansen.

Savanna Loveland Team Falls in Eleven Inning Duel

The Savanna American Legion lost to Clinton American Legion 5 to 6 in eleven innings last Sunday. A large visiting crowd cheered as the lead changed hands late. the game drew comparisons to a famed Chadwick Thomson matchup. The loss ends Savanna's bid for the district championship and shifts focus to county honors.

Miss Francis Hollinhead backed a new Star car into a boulevard light in front of the Community Store on Monday evening. She was adjusting to shifts and, instead of moving forward, shifted to reverse, striking and breaking the light into several pieces.

Miss Mary Hawk Weds Louis J Thomson of Lyons

Miss Mary Hawk daughter of Mr and Mrs William Hawk married Louis J Thompson at her parents home a mile north of Thomson. Rev Montgomery Christian Church officiated. Groom better known in Lyons for his character. After a brief honeymoon in Cedar Rapids and other Iowa stops they will reside in Lyons.

Lyons Fizzled Out On Locals Last Sunday

Local baseball fans faced disappointment when Lyons Independents manager Hulbert canceled a Sunday game. Four players remained available after others joined other teams or were on vacation, leaving Thomson unable to book a replacement or complete the program. Fans and locals voiced regret, blaming unreliable scheduling rather than players. Review shows a $1.50 fee.

Clinton Legion To Play Here This Sunday

Clinton Legion prepares for a Sunday game against an Iowa lineup led by Thomson. Howard and Blaine Leavens will pitch for Clinton while Brandy Ware handles reception.
