Argo-Fa announces its eleventh annual picnic and home coming day for Thursday August 7. Guests from York township and surrounding territory will be entertained with a morning sports program a noon meal a concert in the evening and talks by prominent speakers. Details to follow.
Ordinance No 44 of the Village of Thoson Carroll County Illinois provides a 4000 dollar tax levy for current year. It funds debt service library salaries street lighting street and alley maintenance waterworks election expenses and general fund. The ordinance is titled No 44 and signed by President K D Bennett and Clerk E Sheridan on July 7 1924.
Mary A Turney a resident of our village died Sunday evening at her daughter Alberta Clint Wilt’s home after strokes and a brain hemorrhage. Born December 4 1847 in London England she came to the U S at age eight and married James W Turney in 1867 in Clinton IL. Survived by Alberta Maggie Conrady Edgar Joseph Robert and Charles. Funeral at Clint Wilt home conducted by Rev Winebrenner and Rev Clarke Williams. interment Hickory Grove Cemetery. A note from Dee Stumphy of East Moline requests inclusion in the Sandslough picnic. Lewis Motor Co displays an Overland touring car and will showcase more models soon. Arthur Pape and Willis Pape visit Polo amid illness news.
James Sorensen and Mrs. Glen Sears were arrested by Dixon police returning from a Chicago trip. A car search found 25 gallons of liquor worth about 500 dollars. Sorensen held on 1000 dollar cash bond and costs. Sears released the next day. Ben remained jailed until Saturday with a 1026 dollar fine.
Fulton singer Mrs E F Lorensen will broadcast on W C C Davenport Friday between 8 and 9 pm. She will sing solos and two duets with Harry Mercer of Clinton. Belle Snyder Drury will play piano numbers and accompany the songs. Local listeners are urged to tune in and enjoy her voice.
