Auto Accident Suit Seeks 48000 In Damages east of Mt Carroll

Injuries alleged from a July 26 1952 auto crash east of Mt Carroll lead to a lawsuit filed in Mon county court. Plaintiffs Judith Lindahl minor Margaret Intension Bert Houston and Margaret Miller seek 48000 total across eight counts against defendants O H Bowers and Mrs O H Bowers of Lanark. State Legion Convention Scheduled in Chicago Aug 5 8

About 50 000 Legionnaires and guests are expected for the 36th Illinois American Legion convention to be held August 5 to 8 in Chicago. Sessions take place in Orchestra Hall with Edward Driemeyer presiding. state officers will be elected on August 7.

Schedule Bid-Setting on County Blacktop Road

Carroll county among 36 in the state where the department of public works and buildings will open bids on road and bridge projects on Aug. 2. The county project covers 4.49 miles of bituminous surface treatment on gravel base along federal highway 64 from 3 miles northeast of Mt. Carroll to the Carroll-Stephenson county line.

Lyons Fulton Bridge Sold to Clinton Bridge Commission

The Lyons Fulton bridge over the Mississippi will be sold to the Clinton Bridge Commission after a board vote. The commission will build and operate a new toll bridge at the old Clinton Illinois site and pay $1 275 000 for the bridge and stock. After repayment the states of Town and Illinois will maintain it and the north bridge may become toll free.

August deadline set for ACP reports in Carroll County

Farmers in the 1964 Agricultural Conservation Program must meet an August 15 16 deadline to receive cost sharing for limestone terraces and other soil conservation work. Reports may be filed at the county ASC office or via ACP 245 with receipts. Extensions may be requested in writing, and failure to file could cancel approved practices and jeopardize payments.

Stephenson Fair Plans New Attractions for 1954

Stephenson County Fair at Freeport August 25 to 28 will feature a seven class horse show with a grand entry and trophies for class winners. A 4-H Tractor Rodeo will test members who completed tractor school. Two new pole barn hog facilities await, part of a three year building program. Carroll County to Enter Contests at District Plow Meet

Carroll county may field one contestant in level land and one in contour plowing at the six county district event near Dixon on August 20. Norman Byers of Shannon, last spring’s 4 H contour winner, will represent the county in the contour event. Eligibility includes farmers, farm workers, or youths sixteen and older. The first qualified inquiry becomes Carroll’s entrant for level land. Rules and applications available from Charles Myers in the farm bureau.

Carroll County Fair Adds Pony Show and Tractor Contests

Milledgeville features a pony show for ponies under 46 inches and a pony race for riders 15 and under. A tractor pulling contest offers three weight classes with cash prizes, plus a tractor safety driving contest with four age-based men’s and one women’s class and seven awards per class.

Boys Find Stolen Auto in Timber North of Morrison

A 1941 Nash owned by Herbert Winston of Savanna was found Sunday in a deep culvert in Grover Shirk timber north of Morrison. Stolen June 30 in Elgin, the car was discovered after three local teens and a friend searched for wood during a picnic. The vehicle, nearly undamaged, had battery and radio removed with the trunk empty.

Funeral services for Mrs. Louise Mikson 35 of Cicero were held in Mt. Carroll at a Christian funeral home with burial in Zion cemetery. She was a niece of Mrs. R. E. Boyd. Born October 11 1919 in Oelwein Iowa she was the daughter of Forrest W and Jennie White Fox. Surviving are her son Michael and daughter Patricia both of Cicero.
