Lions Club Plans Melon Days Festival for September

The Thomson Lions Club outlined plans for Melon Days on September 2 and 3 at the local ball field. A steak fry, free watermelon, rides, concessions, and acts including Don ald Red Blanchard are set, with program books and ads to be sold at the gate. Community volunteers are urged to help with tickets, concessions, and watermelons.

Life Memberships Awarded to 37 Osteopathic Doctors

Thomson Schools Hire Floyd As Administrator

John P. Floyd has signed a contract to lead Thomson school districts 174 and 201 as administrator over both grade and high schools and began duties on July 16. He holds a bachelor from Eastern University, a master's from the University of Illinois, and has completed doctoral coursework while pursuing a thesis. Floyd has 32 years in education, including ten years as Alexis schools superintendent, plus prior superintendent roles in Williamsville and East Lynn and tenure as principal and superintendent in New Holland. The Floyds have one daughter who recently graduated from Illinois and works in Rockford. the family plans to move to Thomson.

Pink and Blue Shower Honors Mrs Legel at Clinton

Mrs Archie Green hosted a pink and blue shower for her daughter-in-law Mrs Robert Legel of Clinton. Thirty guests from Clinton Fulton Sterling and Thomson attended as shower games awarded prizes to Mrs French Mrs W G French Mrs Henry Legel and Mrs Wilbur Reader. Cub Scouts of Thomson Troop 252 plan an overnight camp out Friday at Marquette park Savanna. Each scout must be accompanied by a father with own gear food and water. They will travel by boat to the campsite with life jackets provided. Boat rides every half hour. A wiener roast is planned and breakfast Saturday morning. Return home Saturday morning.

Services Held For Mrs. William Hussong

Funeral services for 67 year old uth Marie Likes Hussong were conducted at Reynolds funeral home with Rev. Kendall officiating. Burial followed in Erie cemetery. She was born August 22, 1894 in Fenton and married William Hussong in Morrison on November 18, 1916. They lived in Rock Island Cottonwood and Argo Fay where she resided at her death. She was active in Methodist churches, WSCS and the World War II Mothers. Survived by husband son Clifford and three grandchildren. preceded by her parents and sister Isca Crossman.

Marine Private James E. Baker Completes Indoctrination

Marine Private James E. Baker, son of Mr and Mrs Jake H Baker of Thomson NL, graduated July 27 from Sea Duty Indoctrination School at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. Farewell Supper Honors Mr and Mrs Ray Morelli

About 300 Thomson area residents gathered at Old Mill Park Savanna Tuesday evening to honor and bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Ray Morelli. A potluck dinner, friendship cake and silver horseshoe centerpiece featured before games a community sing and tributes. Mr Morelli, Thomson grade school principal, will become Metamora Ill principal next year while Mrs Morelli, a Thomson teacher, will move with him.

Picnic Planned by White Eagle Homemakers Camp

The Golden Rule class of York Baptist church held its annual picnic at Palisades park in Savanna with 37 attendees. Miss Rita Geddes, a guest in the Heitman home, won first place in Minnesota with her essay sponsored by the VFW and now entered in the national contest. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Kilpatrick and daughter Jean of Elizabeth and Mrs. Jessie Gillespie of Maywood Illinois.

Philalm Lee Reunion Holds Second Annual Gathering

The Philalm Lee reunion met Sunday at Kenneth Bryant's farm near Savannah with 46 guests. The oldest attendee was James Phialmlee, the youngest Jackie Sue Hall, and Mrs. Cecil Hall traveled farthest from Ark. Activities included cards, badminton, and volleyball. The group voted to hold the event annually on the third Sunday in July and noted the birthday of James Keller.

Minister Moves to Eveleth Minn with Family

Rev. and Mrs. Phili W. Anderson and their four children moved Tuesday from the Baptist parsonage in Fulton to Eveleth Minnesota. Anderson has signed a contract to teach the coming year at a junior college in Eveleth after serving ten months as interim pastor of York Baptist Church.
