The Fat Steer Show sponsored by Carroll County Livestock Feeders Association will be held Thursday August 9 at Schell Park Milledgeville. Events include Hereford and Angus classes with a grand champion from the two. Amateur judging contest offers $25 to the closest guess per class. Prize money totals $660 with a $60 grand prize. Steers must be on fair grounds by 9 am and released about 4 pm. Trophies donated by Dr. Lee Derrer in memory of his father.

Sign-up Opens Aug 1 for Soil Conservation Work
Farmers may sign up August 1 for approved soil conservation practices under the Agricultural Conservation Program. Limestone and rock phosphate use begins the same day for the last five months of the year, with technical services from the Soil Conservation Service. Sentenced In Carroll County Burglary Case And Jail Break Attempt
In Carroll County circuit court Judge Robert L. Bracken sentenced John Gordon Bryant 22 to five years to life in state prison for burglary of a Lanark home and for attempted jail break. Bryant, a Washington resident, is reportedly wanted in that state on a parole violation. Larry Reed 18 Rock Falls pleaded guilty to burglary but his case was continued to Aug. 3. Raymond Decker, held since fleeing a Youth Commission camp, pleaded to attempted jail break and was ordered returned to the Illinois Youth Commission.
