Licensing rules for pesticide sprayers under Department of Agriculture

The law requires examination of pesticide applicators to prove knowledge of proper use, dangers, and precautions. Negligent sprayers risk license loss, while farmers spraying their own or two other farms are exempt. Farmers hiring licensed sprayers should insist on a written contract covering treatments, chemicals, rates, payment, and liability protections for adjacent crops and livestock.
