Mr. and Mrs. Dale L. Scott announce the engagement of their daughter Sharon Marie Scott of Clinton Iowa to Larry Hook son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hook of Thomson. Miss Scott a 1966 Clinton high school graduate will attend Clinton Community College this fall. Hook is a 1965 York Community high school graduate and is engaged in farming. No wedding date set.
Gari Lee Stage 17 of 4410 Lathrop Drive Greenwood died Saturday night at 10 00 pm in a head on collision that also claimed two other area youths. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 am at the Sehneider Leucht Merwin Cooney Funeral Home Woodstock with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Stage, a 1966 Woodstock High School graduate, worked at Union Special Machine Co Huntley. He is survived by parents Mr and Mrs Merle Stage a brother Donald W and a sister Joyce Marie both at home and grandparents Mr and Mrs George Collinson Spencer Wis. He was nephew to Mr and Mrs Leonard Stage and G A Smith is a great uncle.
A wedding reception for Mr. and Mrs. Duane St. Ores was held July 2 at 8 00 pm in the York Community Church. About 100 relatives and friends enjoyed cake ice cream sandwiches and punch with a three tier blue and pink wedding cake as the highlight. Relatives served included Mrs Wayne Hook Mrs Jacob Stevenberg and Mrs Robert Brondyke among others. The couple opened presents after lunch with Miss Sharon Brondyke assisting. Attendees came from Clinton Fulton Morrison Garden Plain Fenton Stockton Port Byron and Thompson. Mrs St Ores is the former Janet Dykstra daughter of Mr and Mrs Jake Dykstra.
Thomson News lists a Blair reunion at Point Rock Park Mt Carroll with Mr and Mrs Wayland Bennet and family. Homemaker visits include Jean and Leland Groharing with Jurgenson hosts. Several Sunday visitors to Green and Hook households are noted along with minor local social mentions.

Ladies of the Black Oak Grange 1910 served the noon meal, with an afternoon lunch provided by Mrs. George Schaver, Mrs. John Kramer, Mrs. Marvin Tegeler, Mrs. Donald Kramer, Mrs. Warren Stebbins, Mrs. Clifford Houzenga and Miss Cheryl Tegeler.
Britt's Cafe in Thomson will close for vacation from July 24 through August 7, inclusive, affecting hours and service at the 17 21 location.

Mervin Marshall hosted weekend guests including his daughter and the Mullens of Elgin and the Cates of Algona. Birthday observances brought Hal Ashby and Mrs Heins to Carl Petersen’s home. Mike Workman from Fulton visited Guy Plumley. Linda St Ores spent the weekend in Elgin with her grandparents the Herberts St Ores and planned return with the Halfmans for a vacation. Sylvia Andresen visits her aunt and uncle Gary Andresen in Charlotte Iowa.
Mrs Evaline Foltz remains a patient at Savanna hospital. Ole Eslinger was admitted as a surgical patient Tuesday and underwent surgery Wednesday at Jane Lamb hospital Clinton Ia. He was dismissed Thursday morning. Mrs Hanson sister of Carl Peterson is a patient at Jane Lamb hospital where she underwent surgery Monday. Mrs Keneath Brown is a medical patient at Mercy hospital in Clinton Ia.
Gus O Wintjen, 56, of Savanna died Monday morning at his home. Funeral at Costas in Pleasant Hill with burial in Poore Cemetery, Belleview, Ill. Born December 16, 1909 in Pleasant Hill. Survived by wife Isa Guthrie, five daughters Patricia Bardin, Isa Simpkins, Cora Peters, Shirley Muter, Darlene Wintjen, two sons Howard and Larry, five sisters and 14 grandchildren.
Miss Beth Williams was honored at a miscellaneous bridal shower hosted by Mrs. James Smith and Mrs. Sara Messinger on Friday evening July 15 at Smith home in Wacker. Guests enjoyed bridal games and prizes with refreshments of ice cream and cake. Guests listed include Mrs. Art Crouse, Mt. Carroll. Mrs. Theodore Storm, Mt. Carroll. Mrs. John Carr. A Carroll County air tour for residents is planned for Sunday July 24 from Savannah Airport 9 AM to 4 30 PM. Sponsored by the Soil and Water Conservation District, it offers views of contour strip cropping terraces ponds grass waterways and erosion control structures. Admission is 2 50 for adults and 1 50 for children.

The Thomson American Legion elected Merle Bielema as commander for the 1966 term. Other officers named include Merle Cate as Senior Vice Commander and Clifford Durward as Junior Vice Commander. The group approved a $200 donation to the Little League ball club.
The Clubs and Lodges Card Club held a Sunday picnic at Riverview park in Clinton Iowa with afternoon and evening visiting and swimming. Mrs Jennie French and Mrs Archie Green visited with Mrs French's son in law and daughter from Charles City Claudia Schwartz placed fourth in a halter class at a Leroy Minnesota horse show and also placed fourth in a cloverleaf race.

Bloodmobile to visit Savanna on Wednesday August 24. Next meeting set for Savanna at Albert Greison home.
