Toll rate increase approved by Illinois Commerce Commission

The Illinois Commerce Commission issued an order granting Illinois Bell Telephone Company a temporary intrastate toll rate increase effective July 1, 1947. Rates for calls more than ten miles in Illinois rise generally by 5 cents with 10 or 15 cent increases on longer distances, while calls ten miles or less mostly stay the same except where a special rate was in effect. Long distance to points outside Illinois remains unchanged. The standard three minute initial talking period now applies to calls at 30 cents or higher, while the five minute period applies to 10 cent calls. Illinois Northwestern Telephone Co will reflect the increase on the August bill. All calls after midnight June 50th are charged at the new rate. Local notices of other items follow.
