Knox County Ills early formation and key dates

Knox County Illinois history covers its original creation on June 20 1790 under Governor Arthur St. Clair, its vast early territory including Indiana and parts of Ohio and Wisconsin, and subsequent boundary changes. It notes settlements at Henderson Grove in 1828, the Galesburg colony led by Rev. Gale, and the establishment of Knox Manual Labor College later Knox College. It traces Jo Daviess and other boundaries to 1889 and the Galena county courthouse built 1839 1844 with improvements. The piece ends with a nod to the Ulysses Grant home in Galena.
