Quiet Fourth Of July Observed In Thomson Area

Tuesday proved among the quietest Fourths in years with little firecracker activity and only occasional small fireworks until noon. The afternoon ball game between Milledgeville and Thomson and nearby picnics and resort visits filled the day, with no injuries reported. Route traffic was heavy, local businesses fared well, and mentions include Alvin Strauch heading to Milwaukee to buy a Plymouth and Mrs. William Shelly visiting relatives.

Fair Haven Ladies Aid Ice Cream Social Invite

The Fair Haven church ladies aid invites all to an ice cream social and program on Friday evening July 7. The event may be held on the lawn if weather permits, with Mrs Sucher requesting York and Fair Haven township residents attend for an enjoyable evening. Pearl Evelyn Rawlins marked her 13th birthday with a picnic at her parents home, guests including the Gleasons and Mrs Lawry of Galesburg, Merle and Joel Turney and others. Beards town Melon Growers Organization forms with over 85 growers totaling about 600 acres of cantaloupes and watermelons. 4 H Club names demonstration and judging teams

At yesterday's 4 H Club meeting Harriet Weatherwax and Clara Hook were chosen as the demonstration team to represent the club. Viola Shelly and Mane Stage were selected as the judging team for the county demonstration day to be held soon in Mt Carroll. A style show and garment selection will lead to sending participants to Mt Carroll, reported Eleanor Stage. Former resident Norman Carpenter and family from Peoria called briefly at the George Stores home. Carpenter once lived here as a boy, son of Rev Cecil Carpenter, Christian church pastor.

Harold Fink on University of Illinois Engineering Honor Roll
