Michael D. Senneff of Chadwick was named first alternate nominee for the United States Military Academy at West Point by Rep. John B. Anderson. If the principal candidate William David Dime Jr fails, Senneff advances. Chadwick seniors Fredric C. Cook and Robert Clark Ervin III also named alternates for Air ForceAcademy positions, with David P. Engaldo as a second Air Force alternate. John E. Brodbeck II of Savanna named as alternate for the Naval Academy vacancy.

Conference Tourney Opens Monday Night in Thomson Gym
The Annual Carroll Conference boys basketball tournament begins Monday at York Community high school gym in Thomson with two divisions varsity and frosh soph. Frosh soph games start 6 45 pm followed by varsity. Tuesday features Chadwick vs Thomson and Lanark vs Shannon in frosh soph. Milledgeville vs Carroll in varsity. Semis Thursday then finals Friday with Wednesday winners.

The Illinois State Scholarship Commission names 10 348 semifinalists for 1966 67 based on academics and tests. From Carroll County a group of 26 is listed including Fredric Cook Chadwick Donald Morris Rosemary Weiglé and others from Mt Carroll Lanark Shimer College Savannah and nearby towns. Semifinalists will receive materials for final consideration with winners announced in April.

Mrs. Jewrene Carroll reported a walnut tree cut down at her Mt Carroll farm. Investigators traced logs to a Dubuque delivery and arrested two men who waived extradition. Bond set at 2000 each. case set for Feb 7 with counsel.
