Weather stays cold with talk of last weekend's deep freeze. Local team won a tourney game while residents report hardware trips to the bank and new car wheels. Plans to feed birds and write officials mix with travel talks and regional winter gloom.
Mrs Helen Falls co owner Maple Lawn Nursing Home Thomson Savanna area died Tuesday afternoon at her daughter’s home in Savanna after recent surgery. funeral Friday 1 30 pm Hunt er Jones Memorial Savanna with Rev William Moore officiating. Burial Savanna Township Cemetery. She was born 1898 in Savanna and survived by husband three daughters three sons two brothers a sister 18 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Miss Barbara Platt of DeKalb, a senior at Northern Illinois University, arrived in Thomson to begin practice teaching at York Community High School under Mrs. Rubye Hill. She will teach until March 25 and rooms in the Mervin Marshall home during her stay.
Community members are reminded the PTA smorgasbord occurs this Saturday in the school cafeteria. The 6 pm hour is sold out but 5 and 7 pm servings remain. Call Thomson or Sov. numbers or Mt. Carroll to reserve. Adults and high school students pay $1.50. ed grade school 75 cents. pre school free.
Illinois friends and families living in Tucson shared a share-a-dish dinner at Green Meadows Trailer Park recreation hall. Hosts included O C Garnhart of Freeport and C F Moon of Milledgeville with numerous attendees from Freeport Lanark Shannon Forreston Pearl City Littleton Salt Lake City Washington D C War saw Chadwick and Thomson among others.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Woy of Chadwick arrive in Tucson Arizona for a winter visit at 3349 E Fairmount St Apt 2. Mrs. Woy is mother of Mrs Hobart Holland and Mrs Vernon McGinty.
A Saturday night PTA smorgasbord fundraiser draws crowds with a hearty feed and profits directed to school needs. Officials note Thomson needs several teachers and suggest a unit district as a solution. Tickets are urged to be purchased early and attendees are promised a lively community event.
The Thomson school board announced the hiring of Raymond W. Pettinger of Northbrook Illinois to teach math in the junior high and high school. He began classes this week, replacing Opie Cook of Warren Illinois. Pettinger recently graduated from Northern Illinois University DeKalb.

Mr and Mrs Charles Paisley of Thomson welcomed daughter Emily Ellen born Sunday January 30 at Savanna Hospital. The newborn weighed 7 pounds 13 ounces. Grandparents are Mr Harmon Yenney of Savanna and Wyman Paisley of Sabula.
Patricia Eissens daughter of Theresa Eisens of Thomson earned the 1966 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow title at York Community High School after scoring highest on a December 7 1965 written knowledge and attitude exam. She already holds a General Mills sponsor pin and becomes eligible for state and national scholarships.
The Merton Chapter of the Eastern Stars will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday February 8 at 8 pm in the Masonic hall Fulton. Also the Thomson P T A will meet February 10 in the school cafeteria for Founders Day with honorees past presidents and a skit A Bouquet of Roses presented by hostesses listed.
Carroll County Grade School Basketball Tournament begins Monday February 7 at Chadwick Kich gym with preliminary games set for February 7 8 and 10. Semifinals and finals move to Lanark February 14 16 and 19 with lightweight and heavyweight divisions and a championship game.
Cub Scouts Pack 252 held a January 22 meeting at the grade school. Den 3 led opening ceremonies and awarded Wolf and Bear badges with arrows. four Webelos advance. A skit by Dens 1 and 3 followed, with a transportation theme. Scout week runs February 7 13 with Uniform Day on February 8 and Scout Sunday on February 13. The next meeting is the Blue and Gold Banquet February 26.
John Williamson owner of the B and W tavern in Savanna was robbed by two masked men who beat him and stole about $1400 in cash and $2700 in railroad checks then dumped him along a road in 20 below zero. They drove his car toward the bluffs and abandoned it later in the Oak Park area of Savanna.

Wayne Ashby and Gail Turney remain patients at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City. Mrs. Lester Alspaugh has been discharged from Savanna Hospital after an observation stay. Fred Nips remains a surgical patient in Jane Lamb Hospital.
Riverview resident Marie Brock visited Joy Fosdick in the city. Mrs. Reynolds and daughter Debbie spent the weekend in Charlotte Iowa. Jackie Fosdick had a tonsillectomy at Savanna City Hospital on Feb 4. Mrs. Maude Sager hosted visitors Mrs. Fred Miller and Loyal Brunner. Bud McWorthy visited Clinton relatives last Thursday. Helen O'Neal was home for the weekend and returned to Camanche Monday. Lee Halfman and family traveled to Winston Salem NC due to illness and death in the Willard family.
Gene Enloe of Oak Lawn was a weekend guest in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Sippel and family.

Thomson high frosh-soph squad beat Chadwick 36 to 24 to reach the final round Friday. Muledgeville Missiles defeated Mt Carroll Hawts 62 to 57 with Diehl scoring 20 and Richter 26 leading Mt Carroll. The Missiles to face the Thomson-Lanark winner in the Friday final. Wednesday night box scores.
Dr. Henry B. Bugbee Jr. a continental philosopher will lecture on Poetic Existence and Philosophic Thought at Shimer College Metcalf Auditorium Tuesday evening February 8 at 7 30 pm. The public may attend without charge.

The fifth annual Northern Illinois Pork Institute in Rochelle features a morning session on Assessing the Future of the Pork Industry. An afternoon program includes an Iowa producer and two out-of-state extension livestock specialists, with carcass evaluation, discussion periods, luncheon, and awards at Rochelle Junior High School.
