Leota Stickell and Hobart Holland are announced as a couple to wed in Ottawa Illinois on September 14 1931. The ceremony was officiated by The Reverend Ste Geo at the Ottawa M B church with attendants Marion Tate of Bloomington Illinois. Mrs. Holland a York Community High School graduate teaches at York Center school. Holland born and raised in Thomson owns a local barber shop. The couple plans to start housekeeping in spring and friends wish them happiness.
Funeral rites for John Paul Hammersten, who died Saturday after a brief illness, were held Monday at St Pauls Episcopal Church Savanna. Rev Father Howard B. Ziegler led the low Mass of Requiem. Miss Harriet Correll sang a solo. Casket attendants were Roy Hersey Ole Schmidt William Burke J C Rogers Arthur Hiher and Pat Roche. Burial followed in Lavina Cemeteries. Hammersten will be remembered by many here as Miss Carrie Long a former resident of Thom On.
The Baptist Sunday school meets today with Mrs Ray Breneman leading the Ladies Aid Society. Catholic services are scheduled for next Sunday morning at 8 30 o'clock and parish activities are noted in the church notices.
Sixteen members of the ladies aid society met at Mrs. Delia Melendy’s home for a Wednesday afternoon gathering with lunch served. The Young People’s group will meet Sunday with Ramona Lewis in charge and study Our Part in Sharing. Choir and band practices are scheduled at the Lewis and grade school locations, leading to a 7:30 Sunday evening program. The morning worship and Sunday school times are listed, a leadership aim for youth is noted, and a Savanna youth event is planned for Saturday the 28th, with various written reports due from church organizations.

Mr and Mrs William Eslinger express gratitude to the Thomson fire department and helpers for safe furniture removal. They commend those who provided storage space and the prompt fire alarm responders during the recent incident at their home.
Ammonia patient Morgan improves while Mrs John Nordhoff lies ill with Robert Machel and Advent Atherton among the latest violet fever victims. Daniel P Conner underwent emergency appendicitis surgery at Grant Hospital Chicago last Saturday. His sister in law Mrs John Connell of Mt Carrell went to be with him and reports from Chicago say Mr Connell is progressing well.
The J Durkee farms near Mt. Garrell were sold at public auction to the mortgagee Chicago Joint Stock Bank. The properties include 160 acres farmed by George Shell, 200 acres rented by Chandler Durkee, and 400 acres farmed by Henry J Hartman. Purchase prices were not disclosed.
Scenic Bus Line announces schedule changes via this week's Review. Southbound departures through Thomson now at 10 05 am and 3 00 pm. Northbound stops through Thomson now at 11 40 am and 4 45 pm. Connections available to Rockford Freeport Duque and the Tri Cities.
Mr and Mrs Ben Dyson hosted a Sunday golf dinner. Guests included Mr and Mrs Raymond Rabhi, Mr and Mrs Harl Albright and sons James and Frank, and many others from Freeport Chadwick and Thomson, plus Mrs Blanche Martindale and daughters.
On the Starks farm in Iske, George Ottens directed rebuilding after last fall’s fire destroyed the horse barn grainary and cattle barn. The horse barn and grainary are being rebuilt with overhead grain bins corn cribs and an elevator. the intact cattle barn is remodeled to house all cattle, while the old destroyed cattle barn will not be replaced. the farm is owned by an insurance company.
Fred Smith died at St Joseph Indiana after a brief illness. His widow is Mildred Lois Gee, former principal of Thomson School. The obituary notes Harold Gee, Joan Yvonne, siblings, and interment at Riverside cemetery. Funeral services held at Coburn's Corners with local clergy and lodge involvement.
Thomson hosts a swap and barter day on Saturday February 4 inviting residents to bring items for sale or trade. Auctions run free of charge, clerks and bills provided, Main street donated, with two combination sales at 2 pm. Mr and Mrs Herman Francke celebrate fifty years of marriage with family, neighbors and friends invited to call at their home next Wednesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. The couple married February 1 1888 in Galena after a snowbound journey from Hanover. Their children Ernie Clara Philip Walter Ruth Val and David plus spouses are listed. Thomson High announces two upcoming home doubleheaders pairing Sabula Iowa on February 7 and Mt Carroll on January 31 under Coach Walker. Thomson seeks a continued strong run as they aim to extend a rare home loss record this season against Hanover, Cane, and others.
Thomson High School narrowly defeated Shannon by tight defense holding Shannon to few close shots. Thomson offense improved with seven field goals led by stars, while Shannon struggled from the outside due to close guarding.
