Eugene Murry of York township Carroll county and I A Abbott Whiteside county lead a group of finalists honoring farm yields at the University of Illinois Farm and Home Week. Murry posted 102.48 bushels per acre with 11 acre plots earning a gold medal and high quality score while Abbott produced 100.54 bushels per acre. Other top northern division yields include DeKalb and Foswell county entries with 104.78 and 127.96 bushels per acre respectively. Contestants must show seed samples and full cost and work sheets.
Thirty five members attended the tri rompiy sebuuiimusceres club meeting at Carroll high school Monday evening. B B Beech presided. A home economies serving crew catered the banquet. Program included music by the high school orchestra and a saxophone octet. Attorney Ralph Eaton spoke on schools' responsibility to society. Next meeting slated for the second Monday in March. price not yet set, likely in Seefphensen County seat.

Road work on the Zion route—from Ridge road north of Savanna to Zion—will begin early spring. The project, spanning about four and a half miles, has state highway department approval and bids will be requested soon. Planned widening includes new bridge over Camp creel near Ed Simon Laem, 10 feet by 20 feet, about 56 feet south of the old bridge.

Carroll county reports 72 completed loans on 1938 corn from Dec 1 1998 to Jan 16 1939 totaling $25 559 14 covering 62 162 bushels. Thirty one loan applications remain to be processed and total loan activity reaches 103 since program began. demand exceeds last year and many more loans likely before April 1.
Savanna high school cagers defeated DeWitt 32 to 10 Monday at DeWitt gym. Savanna led 15 to 7 after the first quarter and 25 to 10 by the third. DeWitt went scoreless in the final period as Savanna added 7 points. Savanna reserves won the preliminary 20 to 16.
