Galena Boat Club Inc now has a 7.9 acre expansion via a new U S Corps of Engineers lease expanding the prior three acre site. President Ed Burke says a directors meeting will set work plans for the coming year and the March 18 1960 membership meeting will approve the program. Arrested Twice for Disorderly Conduct in Mt Carroll
James Neis aged 28 from Savanna was fined 100 dollars and costs after appearing before Justice of the Peace Lee Gifford. He had been arrested by Sheriff Harry Miller on Wednesday after relatives said Neis threatened them, but charges were dropped when they did not sign a complaint. Early Thursday his mother-in-law reported he drove up and down a lane in front of her home prompting a second arrest and a signed complaint.

Caps found scattered in Savanna area prompt caution from officials
A mystery batch of dynamite caps dated November 1946 was found in Savanna and Mt. Carroll. Atlas Powder Co and DuPont Hercules caps were examined by H D Anderson of Atlas who warned they may detonate from lightning or radio transmissions. Deputy Sheriff Gorman transported caps in a two way radio equipped car while discussion with Anderson occurred. No thefts or losses tied to the caps have been found in nearby districts. Officials urge people to leave the caps alone to avoid fatal accidents.

Pinned Under Upset Tractor But Unhurt
Lawrence Hartman of Chadwick narrowly escaped serious injury Saturday when a tractor he operated tipped over a bank into a ditch with water on his brother Alfred Hartman’s farm southwest of Chadwick. He was pinned under the icy water about an hour, then taken by ambulance to Morrison hospital where doctors found no broken bones or serious injuries. He returned home Monday largely unharmed.

At a Carroll county board of supervisors session Dr Lee W Derrer was reappointed rabies inspector for the county. The board instructed the committee to enforce rabies provisions using its judgment and to report later on tax bounty payments possibly diverted from Daviess county or Iowa. The board also approved $60000 for county road patrol maintenance from motor fuel taxes and heard a request from Shimer College to use the circuit court room for a play with courtroom scenes, contingent on public buildings committee approval. The sheriff's department car purchase was referred to the sheriff's committee with authority to act.
