Fire destroys Frank Funeral Home in Mt Carroll

Fire Monday gutted the Frank Funeral Home and furniture store in Mt Carroll, causing an estimated loss well over 55000. The blaze started in the adjoining garage, trapping smoke and flames that hampered crews amid cold conditions. salvage included only business records kept in a fireproof safe.

Mountain Climbing Talk Delights 4-C Club at Mt Carroll

The 4-C Club met at Farm Bureau Hall in Mt Carroll for an engaging talk by Rev D J Schulyleman of Polo on his Rocky Mountain climbing hobby. He shared experiences with humor and showcased basic gear for mountain vacations and photos of scenes unseen by mere car travel. A social hour with refreshments followed for 26 couples. planning for February’s meeting was announced by Wilmer Smith with four couple committees named.

Savanna Girl Injured as Auto Overturns

A Savanna girl, daughter of Mr and Mrs Earl LaShelle, suffered a four inch forehead bash in a Sunday early morning accident near the former Brown Derby on Route 80 north of Savanna. She and Max Tack and Charles McColley were in a 1950 Ford when Tack lost control and the car overturned. all three occupants were in the wreck but none were ejected. The vehicle was brought to a Savanna garage after heavy damage.

Mt Carroll defeated Chadwick 61 to 53 in a Carroll County Conference game. Herb Sisler led Mt Carroll with 23 points, while Coden had 17 for Chadwick. Chadwick won the preliminary 39-32.

County Board Rehires Farm Superintendent and Grants Bridge Aid

Congressman Leo E. Allen of Galena announces his candidacy for the Republican nomination in Illinois Sixteenth District. The board rehired Carroll County Farm Superintendent Walter H. Motorist Dies in Crash Near Savanna

Stephen Miller 59 of Georgetown Illinois was killed instantly when his car left a curve on Illinois 80 seven miles north of Savanna struck an utility pole and two trees and overturned. An inquest found a basal skull fracture and a broken back. Survivors include his widow and a daughter in Waterloo. Burial followed in Waterloo.

Dairy Exhibit Day at Carroll County promises money making ideas

Everyone Can Learn At Dairy Exhibit Day will be held Thursday Jan. 21 at the farm bureau hall from 11 00 a m to 3 00 p m. Exhibits on calf feeding artificial breeding mastitis grass silage and other dairy problems will be shown. Hay and grass silage show entries must be brought before 11 15 a m. University of Illinois dairy specialists will discuss dairy problems and show slide films. A free noon lunch is provided by Kraft Cheese Co Milledgeville Chadwick Cheese Co op and Quality Milk association. Door prizes and hay grass silage prizes will be awarded.

Former Mt. Carroll area resident Mabel Seiple Greenawalt died December 24 in Fresno California. She and her husband were born in Carrell county and lived here until about 30 years ago before moving to California. They once ran a greenhouse on the Mt. Carroll area farm now owned by Glenn Teeter.
