Dale Eslinger of Thomson suffered second degree burns to the lower face and neck from a butane flash fire at the Chemplex Corporation high density plant in Clinton. He was treated at Clinton hospital and released the following day.

Farmers Help Reduce Surplus by Conserving Base Acres

Farmers in three major federal programs during 1970 will keep about 100 million acres in soil protecting uses and out of surplus crop production. No payments are made to farmers for this conserving base, set by county ASC, based on crop and soil use history. The move aims to curb excess production and protect natural resources.

Tamela Sue Gipe, 8, of Pearl City died after a sled ride with Penny Moothart, 5, into the path of a car driven by Roger Hartman in Chadwick area. Hartman unable to see due to embankment and snow. Thomson High School Trojans posted a 91-90 win over Freeport Again in round one and outscored Ili nois 28-22 in field goals.
