Three Hurt As Auto Overturns Near Savanna
A 1940 Ford V-8 carrying Herbert Shelly Mae Bittner and Albert Green skidded on a slushy pavement near Palisade tavern two miles north of Savanna. The car struck a telephone pole, then railroad tracks. Bittner was taken to hospital with unknown injuries. Shelly and Green were treated at a Savanna physician's office.

Mt Carroll Theatre Sold After 12 Years of Operation
Floyd Albert announced the sale of the Majestic theatre in Mt. Carroll to Marchesi Brothers. Albert will run the theatre until May 1, then Marchesi Brothers will open a new modern theatre in the county seat. The firm already operates five Illinois theatres and has begun remodeling the Hartman building.

Amnesia victim located after two-year disappearance
Joe Daniels a 51-year-old Savanna farmer who vanished in March 1938 after leaving for Rockford with 250 dollars reappeared in Savanna Friday. He had amnesia from a July accident and remembered little of his family except he was found in Wyoming, then moved to Nebraska where relatives were informed.

Three Escape Injury In Car Crash Thursday
Three people escaped injury last Thursday afternoon when two cars collided head on at the eastern edge of Shannon on Highway 72. Both vehicles were badly damaged. Frank Hawk of Florence Station was involved, and a Cedar Rapids Iowa man and his wife were occupants of the other car, though their identities were not learned.

Truckload Of Eggs Upset Near Savannah Route 52
A semi overturned Friday night near the Lewis Holy farm on Route 52 four miles east of Savannah spilling about 25 cases of eggs into the snow. The driver, Schneider, swerved to avoid a car, went off the shoulder, and the truck could not be driven. He was uninjured and en route from Iowa to Maywood Illinois with 210 crates of 30 dozen eggs each. the unbroken eggs were transferred to a Maywood truck.

State Report Shows Drop In Typhoid Deaths
The Illinois department of public health reports provisional mortality statistics for 1939 show 74 of 102 counties reported no typhoid deaths and 70 no diphtheria deaths while six counties reported no tuberculosis deaths. In 1929 fewer counties had no typhoid and diphtheria deaths, and only one county had no tuberculosis death. Pneumonia killed residents in every county in 1939, with six counties reporting other deaths. Carroll County reported one death.
