Mrs. Louis Kness brought her grandson Jack Regan to Chicago for a several days visit. Regan had earlier been to Iowa on business and stopped at the Kness home.

Hand el Bros. win Chadwick 10-acre property at auction

Harlan Handel operator of Hand el Bros. trucking at Chad wick was high bidder on the 10 acre parcel just north of Chadwick sold at public auction by Robert Spealman. Charles Spealman plans a closing out sale March 1 then will move into own. Handel says he will not state use of the property or if company quarters will be moved.

Born September 2 1884 in Oxford Junction he worked for the railroad since 1902. Survived by widow three sons and a daughter.

The Illinois State Housing Board approved George Mest Carlton E Cheek Paul K Miles Fred Rhodes Sr and Roy Howe as Carroll County Housing Authority Commissioners with no salaries. They pledge service to improve housing with veterans given first preference. A long range plan requires materials and labor for blighted areas and redevelopment. Stransky Buys Star Schoolhouse For 1400 Dollars

Stransky of Savanna bought the Star school building east of Chadwick at auction for about 1400 dollars. The unused rural structure was sold by Wysox township school trustees and the contents were sold by the district school board. Stransky plans to remodel it as a tenant house on his adjoining farm.

Sheriff Probes Weekend Burglary and Home Theft Spree

Sheriff Henry Truninger investigated a burglary at a Mobil service station at Routes 52 and 72 in Lanark entered between 10:45 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. Monday. About $76 in cash vanished after a glass door was broken. Earlier, $8 was stolen from Rev. S. Birdsall’s billfold as the family attended church. Tuesday, a break in at Excelsior School east of Savanna yielded only fountain pens and pencils missing.
