Van Kampen Babe Dies Saturday in Chadwick
LaVerne Stephen Van Kampen was born Feb. 19 at Sterling Community Hospital and died Saturday morning. Graveside services were held Sunday at Chadwick Cemetery with Rev. Eldon Schriver officiating. The War Department announced the posthumous Bronze Star for Cpl Donald O Streicher son of Mr and Mrs John Streicher. He was killed May 18 1953 in Korea after unleashing fire at the enemy to break an ambush aiding a wounded pointman and saving the main force.

At the February 18 meeting of the executive board Mrs. Stanley Young reported 1646 registered Girl Scouts across 23 northwest Illinois towns.
