Thomson FFA Chapter Hosts Annual Parent Son Banquet

The Thomson FFA held its annual Parent-Son banquet at the high school gym on Feb 22. Wayne G. Tidd and Lynn Bower received Honorary Chapter Farmers Degrees. Linda Diephuis named FFA Sweetheart. Awards covered beef, dairy, swine, crops, and farm topics with several members earning state and sectional honors.

McGinty Reports Theft of Tools Worth $1000

Richard McGinty of Thomson reports the theft of about $1000 in items from Dar Land on Route 78 last Monday evening February 14. The loss includes roofing material plumbing tools power tools and copper fittings. McGinty asks anyone who recognizes the items to notify the sheriff's office.

Eissens Named Section II Star Farmer

Ray Eissens son of Mr and Mrs George Eissens and a senior at Thomson high school was named Section 2 Star Farmer at a Dixon meeting. He competed against boys from Carroll Lee Rock Island and Whiteside counties for a prize based on farming program scholarship and leadership. Eissens manages 5 beef steers 13 cattle 46 swine 15 acres oats 10 corn 18 hay and serves as president of the local FFA chapter. He advances to the district contest at Kewanee March 30 with the state event in Urbana April 23 as the goal. Other Section 2 awardees include Lippens Beau Prophetstown and Buikema Thomson among many' including Ray Bissens Thomson listed in farming categories.

John Dimmick, son of Mr and Mrs Delbert Dimmick of Thomson, and Norman French of Thomson, along with John and Robert Demaree of Mesa Arizona, have earned PhDs. Women Injured in One Car Crash on Chadwick Blacktop

Mrs. Marion Olson and Mrs. Harold Christiansen of Mt. Carroll were hospitalized in Savannah after a Wednesday afternoon accident on the Chadwick blacktop. The car left the road and plunged into a ditch, possibly due to steering failure. Olson had leg injuries and bruises and remained under care.

Thom son Man Wayne P. Ashby Dies in Iowa City hospital

Wayne P. Ashby 66 of Thomson died at 10 AM Wednesday in the Veterans Hospital Iowa City after a lengthy illness. Funeral arrangements include a 2 PM service at Thomson Methodist Church with a 1:45 family prayer in church parlors. He is survived by his wife Florence and three sons, a daughter, ten grandchildren, his mother Ada Ashby and four brothers, with final services at Fay Funeral Home in Ful lton and burial in Thomson.

District Tourney Opens Tonight At Shannon

The district tournament starts tonight at Shannon with Chadwick vs Shannon at 7 p.m. and Thomson Trojans against Lyndon Wildcats at 8:30 p.m. The Trojans own an 18 5 record and have won the Holiday and Carroll Count tournaments this year. Chadwick stands 12 10 after beating the Trojans twice in four meetings. Shannon sits at 3 19 and Lyndon at 4 13. If both survive, Thomson hopes for a 3 2 mark against Chadwick.
