A frayed political debate suggests President Roosevelt may offer a new Supreme Court nominee as vacancies arise, with discussions about packing the court and the implications for the nation. Lanark and Thomson finished tied for fourth with three conference wins each as Carroll led the league with eight victories and two losses during the 1932-33 season. Chadwick claimed second at seven and three, Milledgeville third at six and four, Shannon last with two. Laneark upset Carroll 25 to 22 as Merchant led Lanark with 13 points, Paisley led Carroll with nine.
Sinai High School athletic official C W Whitten announced 6500 tickets will be issued Friday with 2000 season tickets reserved for 16 finals communities and 1200 for school officials. About 3300 season tickets at 3.50 adults 2.00 children remain for public sale. Single-session tickets cost 75 cents adults 35 cents children. finals day 1.00 for adults 60 cents for children. Mail orders accepted March 6 to 10. tickets ready before March 1.
Several Lanark residents interested in the local cold storage locker plant attended a two day state meeting at the University of Illinois this week. The program covered construction and management of locker plants and processing and storing meats vegetables and fruits. About 100 facilities are operating in Illinois, with many built in the past year. Attendees included Russell Rahn George Morris George Hammond and George Lang.
Carroll county vital statistics for January show 22 births, eight girls and fourteen boys, plus eighteen deaths and three stillbirths. Births list names and locales such as Savanna Lanark Shannon Milledgeville and Mt. Carroll, with parents’ names. Deaths include Alfred O Swift Clara Eliza Lawrence Arthur C Holland Elmer Kensinger and others, with ages and burial sites in local cemeteries.
The week shows rapid weather shifts from snow to warmth then rain and fog. About 500 workers in Carroll County are covered by the Illinois Unemployment Compensation Act figure released by Director Martin P. Durkin. The act provides cash benefits for a limited period if unemployed through no fault of their own after July 1, 1939 under a fund exceeding 125 million dollars. Only workers in eligible jobs with eight or more workers are covered. agricultural labor domestics and some government employees are excluded.
Pearl City teams topped the poultry and general judging events at the Stillman Valley high school gym, with Savanna second and Leaf River third. The competition drew 32 high schools. results list team totals for corn and poultry judging, plus individual placings across multiple districts.

The Illinois division of highways awarded contracts for bridges in Carroll and Ogle counties ahead of spring work. H J Eppel of Pontiac will build an I-Beam bridge over Elkhorn Creek east of Milledgeville on Route 4 for 24206.46 dollars. Ray Mann Construction of Rockford will build a Libeam bridge over Buffalo Creek southeast of Polo on Route 7 for 21839.48 dollars. Bids for 4.03 miles of gravel surface from Route 88 at Milledgeville east and from Polo southwest will be opened Friday Feb 24 on routes 4 and 7.
The Carroll county area began with Savanna’s 1828 settlement by the Davidson, Blundle, Pierce, and related families after leaving Galena. Luther H. Bowen laid out Savanna in 1836 and became postmaster, as smaller groves like Cherry and Elkhorn grew into early communities while Black Hawk War disruptions paused some settlers.
A license application was filed with the county clerk by Claude Haenitsch of Ashton and Ruth Cripe of Mt Carroll. Eva Castle of Savanna was granted a divorce from J Perry Castle in Mt Carroll circuit court on Monday, the cruelty complaint noted. Judge Leon A. Zick presided a Mt Carroll session and will reconvene Thursday March 2. the November term ends, March term begins March 6. A license was filed by Franklin Puterbaugh of Lanark and Rosetta Rappel of Chicago.

Glenn Ward Dresbach of Lanark, renowned poet, led Milledgeville centennial events honoring Carroll County's founding. He spoke on Frontiers praising early settlers and read an original poem Saluteto the Pioneers. Civic groups hosted an evening program with an antiques display at the high school.

Corporal Albert Bingham of the Savanna ordnance depot and his companion Caroline Klopf were seriously injured when their car left highway 52, struck a United Brethren church at Center Hill, moved the frame building four inches off its foundation, and caused a small fire from radiator alcohol before being treated at Savanna hospital and at the ordnance hospital.
Carroll county township board members will meet March 1 to discuss phases of the new budget law. M. P. Coaker of Peoria Auditing Company, which audits Carroll county books, will attend to explain the law to officials of 14 townships.
