Army engineers at Rock Island call for bids to install power lighting and electrical control equipment at Dam No 13 on the Mississippi River and set up a temporary gate system. Bids open February 24 at 2 p m with completion deadlines in 1939 and wage rates listed for electricians painters apprentices handymen and laborers.
Plans for a Washington's Birthday patriotic ceremony were outlined by Ramat chapter O E S at last week's regular meeting. Masonic lodge members will be guests. Mesdames Honberger Daehler Harris Way Humbert and Dial were named to committees to finalize arrangements.
Mt Carroll high school clinched the county cage league title by routing Lanark 97 to 1 in the final conference game. Thomson sits second with seven wins two losses, Mt Carroll also seven and two but higher percentage. Remaining games shape third place as Milledgeville visits Chadwick and other matchups close the season before the regional tournament begins March 2 at Mt Carroll.

Reports that two hospital escapees from Chester Illinois were spotted around Mt Carroll caused county concerns Monday and Tuesday. A 16 year old saw a light car bearing the fugitives and a revolver in the seat. Detectives checked highways and cafe sightings but no conclusive identification was made.
A massive ice gorge rose eight to ten feet high in the Mississippi River about one mile above Dam No 13 Sunday night and Monday, says H W Bischman resident engineer in charge of construction. The ice had not packed enough to hinder water flow or threaten the dam, and river levels fell Monday. Timber clearing at Thomson was delayed as the new bridge remained unusable.
Elaine Zier of Lanark was found delinquent in county court and sent to the state school for girls in Geneva. Sheriff Eber Shepherd escorted her to Geneva on Tuesday.
Harry Shiley of Lanark was reelected president of the Carroll County Sportsmen's Club at a Mt. Carroll meeting. Francis Schmidel and Kenneth Truman were named officers, with Mt. Carroll electing Coleman Miles as president. Seven chapters attended as the group reported over $200 spent on conservation, including releasing 700 pheasants 80 quail and 119 rabbits and building shelters and feed pens.
Checks totaling 9342.52 were mailed to township school treasurers from the county superintendent of schools. The sum covers December and January state distributive funds for 1936 claims, plus accrued surplus, and includes the first payment of 1937 claims.
Miss Elsie Ross Butler, new girls 4 H club adviser for the district, met with county girls 4 H club committee members Thursday morning in the Farm Bureau office to discuss activities.
Henry Holling of Savanna was placed on probation by County Judge Orion M. Grove after pleading guilty to a charge of failing to turn over funds as a commission man. Holling had been out on bond and received a hearing previously before the probation decision.
A Savanna man is released on probation by a district judge on Monday. The report notes ongoing local committee meetings and upcoming events across Carroll County including school and agriculture activities. No additional details provided.

William Rucker a 19 year old Lanark youth was sent to the county jail after arraignment on a larceny charge. He could not post $1000 bond and faces a grand jury action. He is accused of stealing 23 chickens and seven roosters from the Percy Schreiner farm near Brookville on January 16.
