Wysox Man Dies in Self Inflicted Shotgun Tragedy

Clarence Lamoreux aged 63 died from shotgun wounds at his sister Emma Weatherwax’s Milledgeville home where he lived. He reportedly placed the gun in a vise and pulled the trigger amid despondency over ill health. He leaves three sons Cecil Lloyd Ta Arthur and a daughter Leota Jardahl plus three sisters. Funeral plans not set.

Four Lanark Youths Placed On Probation

Four Lanark youths who pleaded guilty to larceny and sought probation were granted probation last week in circuit court by Judge Albert H. Manus. The defendants Elmer Miller 19 Donald Blair 20 Donald Clark 20 and Kenneth Buckwalter 20 were indicted March 15 after sheriff arrests for theft of car accessories.

Petitions Filed For Multiple Offices In State Primary

About 500 petitions were filed on Saturday with Secretary of State Edward J. Hughes for the April 12 primary. Republicans lead with 270 filings and Democrats with 231. Notable candidates include Scott W. Lucas and Barratt O Hara, with Giles as the only Democrat among the top offices. Local races feature Leo Allen in the 13th district, Chester Thompson in the 14th, and Robert M. Harper in the 33rd for state senate, plus several for the 13th and 33rd state house seats and other districts.

Two Young People Escape Injury in Mt Carroll Crash

Two young residents near Mt Carroll escaped serious injury after a car driven by Wayne Harmon lost control and plunged into a roadside ditch near the fairground corner. Harmon and his passenger Miss Marcella Yochem suffered only minor bruises and scratches as a Mt Carroll garage wrecker removed the vehicle from the ditch. The incident occurred about ten o clock Sunday night drawing curious onlookers to a scene obscured by a slight road rise.

Food Depot Move Considered to Savanna by County Board

County supervisors met for the February session and endorsed moving the commodity food depot to Savanna. A rent offer of 25 dollars a month for three months with a one year option was approved, and no deliveries to Savanna relief clients will be made at the new site. The session ended with routine committee work and plans for the March meeting.
