Three Village Trustees Seek Re-Election April 18

Trustees Paul Lewis Lyle Vailliams and Fay Ashby face election on April 18 to fill four-year terms. February 27 is the last day to file nomination petitions with Village Clerk Bette Meakins. Ashby is circulating his campaign card for re-election while others have not announced their intentions.

George Bush Dies Sunday in Clinton Hospital

George W. Bush, 63, longtime owner and operator of the Bush Cafe and Wooden Shoe Club in Fulton, died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday at Jane Lamb Hospital in Clinton. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Fay-Seeser funeral home in Fulton with Rev. Delbert W. Icenogle officiating. Burial followed in Fulton Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Leona, daughter Georgiana Alm of Clinton, two sisters Miss Gertrude Bush and Mrs. Leland Kane, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

PTA Hears Sauk Valley College Dean Osborn

Sauk Valley College Dean Osborn spoke at the Thom son PTA meeting with slides on the college’s present and future. Robert Dillon from Sauk Valley Board of Education attended. a skit on PTA scholarships preceded the program. The group discussed nominating committee chairs and plans to recruit 30 new members before March 5. Proceeds from the Smorgasbord support school system needs.

Dinner Served for Mormon Feed Company Managers

The Thomson Methodist Church fed state district and local managers of the Mormon Feed Company and their guests last Thursday in the church basement. Fay Ashby and Wayne Kaufman were listed as local representatives. Sixty four people attended the dinner.

Prins Couple to Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Claus Prins of 1125 15th Avenue Fulton Illinois observe their 50th wedding anniversary on February 21 with no open house due to Mrs Prins ill health. Married February 21 1917 in Thomson Illinois by Rev F J Gilroy the Prins farmed in Thomson 42 years before retirement and now reside in Fulton. They attend First Christian Reformed Church and have two daughters Lucille Buikema and Dorothy Vogel plus four granddaughters.

Black Oak Grange meeting and March plans announced

A postponed Black Oak Grange meeting met February nine at Ideal Grange hall. March events include lunch by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Manning and a March two business session. A March sixteen birthday supper and public card party are planned with no March social meeting. The group will assist tornado debris cleanup prior to planting.

Rockford College Freshman Ray Eissens Leads Team

Ray Eissens a 1966 Thomson High School graduate and Rockford College freshman serves as starting center. He averages 18 points and 15 rebounds per game, with 29 points and 19 rebounds in his latest outing. Rockford faces Shimer College Saturday at 8 p.m. at Mount Carroll High School gym.

Fred Hook 30 Years Married Valentines Day Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Fred Hook celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on Tuesday evening with a gathering of relatives and friends. The couple received a gift from the group and were joined by Irma Geist and family Bud Dunn and son Richard Andresen Carl Petersen Hal Ashby Jennice Hinze Edward Hook and family. Bernice Hass and Fred Hook wed in Clinton on Valentine’s Day 1937 and they have five children Richard Des Moines Edward Thomson and Larry Dwayne and Cheryl at home.

Thomson High School FFA members join Illinois FFA Week February 18 25 with 16 000 members statewide. Advisor Mr Gengenbach reports projects highlight agriculture education and Citizenship The chapter has 41 members this year and participates in American Heritage Safety parliamentary procedure and land use programs. Illinois has 436 chapters and the national organization nears 400 000 members across 8 000 local units in 5 states and Puerto Rico.

Thursday presents Chicken Loaf with tomatoes. Friday plans a main dish to be chosen with carrots and celery.

First Day To File School Board Petitions February 22

Residents are reminded that February 22 marks the first day to file petitions for the school board election and March 18 is the final filing date. Petitions are available at the grade school office from 8 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday and may be filed with Secretary Paul James Green during the same hours. Two board vacancies occur this year with terms for Marvin Holesinger and Clifford Dykstra. Holesinger will not seek reelection, while Dykstra plans to run again. The election is set for Saturday April 8. Mrs. Bernice Sour visited the Harry Bowers home Tuesday.

Funeral Of Mrs John B Frank Held Sunday In Mount Carroll

Funeral services for Mrs John B Frank of Mt Carroll were held at 2 PM Sunday in the Frank Funeral Home with the Rev David Ellis officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill cemetery. She died February 9 after two weeks at Perry Memorial hospital Princeton. She was born Violet Snealman daughter of Harve and Olive Snealman of Chadwick. She was married to John B Frank on January 18 1929. Survivors include son Dr Stanwood Frank of Walnut two grandchildren and a sister Mrs Kenneth Senneff of Chadwick. She was active in local clubs and organizations.
